Stomp

A stomp, also called a Foot Stomp,^[1] is the second part of a jump that occurs while a character comes down. The player does not have to jump; a stomp can be performed any time Mario (or another character) is falling. If the character stomps on top of an enemy or switch, they can defeat or incapacitate the enemy or activate the switch. Stomping on enemies is Mario's primary attack, but it does not work on spiked, ghost, underwater (in most games), or fiery enemies (if stomping is attempted, Mario can take damage). Smaller enemies that Mario stomps upon are usually flattened completely, such as Goombas. Enemies such as Piranha Plants and Boos also cannot typically be stomped on in the platform games, but they can in some other games, such as 3D Mario games like Super Mario 3D World and certain minigames in the Mario Party series, respectively. Wearing a Goomba Shoe gives Mario the power to stomp on spiked enemies. A variant of stomping is also present in the Super Smash Bros. series starting in Super Smash Bros. Brawl , in which it is known as Footstool Jumping and knocks down midair opponents rather than dealing damage; in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate , using this on Piranha Plant while it is crouching uniquely causes it to respond with an upwards biting attack. In the Mario + Rabbids series, Mario can gain the ability to stomp on enemies during a Team Jump, dealing damage to them. This ability can be upgraded in Mario's Skill Tree in both games in the series, increasing the damage dealt as well as increasing the distance after performing the attack.

Stomping first appears in Super Mario Bros. Anyone who can jump has the ability to stomp. In the Mario role-playing games, Mario uses it with an Action Command for extra damage. In the Mario Party series, the player can jump on a rival to stun them briefly, though it is still not as strong as a Ground Pound.

In Donkey Kong Country Returns and its Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch ports, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong have their own unique version of stomping, though it is only ever described as jumping off an enemy. In these games, Donkey Kong punches enemies as he lands on them, hitting them while bumping himself up. He can do this with only one hand, if the other is being used to hold an object. Unlike games of the Super Mario series, Donkey Kong gains almost no height when jumping off of enemies if the player only holds the jump button. Rather, to jump high off an enemy the player has to press the jump button as they land on the enemy. If Donkey Kong is not holding an item and this input is performed correctly, he flips around in the air. Rambi and Mine Carts the player is riding inside can jump on enemies, although they do not have differing animations. These mechanics are retained in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze .

Dizzy Stomp[edit ]

• Lets Mario do a Dizzy Stomp. Uses 2 FP. If it works, the enemy Mario stomps on becomes dizzy. It also paralyzes the enemy for a short time. When dizzy an attack might miss 50% of the time.
  • This badge can be found within a chest in the lower southwest area of Mt. Lavalava. Mario will need the Ultra Hammer to break the Steel Block guarding the room containing the chest.

Power Bounce[edit ]

• FP: 3
• Lets Mario do a Power Bounce. Uses 3 FP. Jumps on one enemy continuously until Mario misses an action command. The damage will decrease by 1 for each Jump following the second.
  • Near the entrance to the Koopa Bros. Fortress is a room filled with several jail cells. Two of them can be entered by using Bombette to blow up visible cracks. One cell contains a key; the other one holds this badge.

Shrink Stomp[edit ]

• FP: 2
• If executed correctly, makes the enemy smaller, decreasing their attack power. Its success rate depends on the enemy and drops attack by three.
  • It is located in The Great Tree, in the area with all the water that Mario has to drain out. To get it, Mario must Jump on the center log to reach it.

Sleep Stomp[edit ]

• FP: 2
• Lets Mario do a Sleep Stomp. Uses 2 FP. If it works the enemy Mario jumps on falls asleep for a bit. It makes the enemy sleep which skip's the foes' turn until attacked.
  • It is only available for sale at Rowf's Badge Shop for 75 Coins.

Sleepy Stomp[edit ]

• BP: 1
• FP: 2
• If executed correctly, has a chance of making the enemy go to sleep. Its success rate depends on the enemy and makes the enemy sleep which skips the foes turn until attacked.
  • It is also found on the 10th floor of the Pit of 100 Trials. This badge is also easily bought at The Lovely Howz of Badges.

Soft Stomp[edit ]

• BP: 1
• FP: 2
• If executed correctly, makes the enemy "soft", which decreases their defense. Its success rate depends on the enemy and drops defense by three. It is similar to the D-Down Jump.
  • The badge can be found in the residential area of the Rogueport Underground (Near Merluvlee's house, in the bottom left corner of the map) in a treasure chest.

• Description: While Gliding, an extra attack can be performed by Stomping on the head of the target below.
  • Base DMG is based on Mario's current LVL.
