Beehives appear in the Super Mario franchise under many contexts, such as world and level settings, interactable objects, and background elements.
History[edit ]
Donkey Kong 3[edit ]
Beehives appear in Donkey Kong 3 as obstacles. They are knocked against by Donkey Kong, using his fists in the blue and gray greenhouses, or with coconuts, like in the yellow greenhouse. A beehive falls on Donkey Kong in the yellow greenhouse, having been forced by Stanley: This is followed by an animation in the arcade version where Donkey Kong tries to take off the beehive, which breaks open when it hits the ground, showing Donkey Kong with a swollen face and a puffy right eye.
Yoshi's Story[edit ]
Beehives (referred to as Bee's Nests)[1] reappear in Yoshi's Story as obstacles. If a beehive is passed by a Baby Yoshi too quickly, several agitated bees emerge to obstruct their progress, or if the hive is hit from an egg, the bees attack Yoshi in the form of a fist.
Mario Party series[edit ]
Beehives appear in the minigame Honeycomb Havoc in Mario Party 2 , Mario Party: The Top 100 , and Mario Party Superstars . Any time a beehive is collected by a player, they lose the minigame.
Paper Mario[edit ]
A beehive appears in the Forever Forest in Paper Mario . If the beehive is hit by the hammer, a Bzzap! emerges to battle Mario.
Super Mario Sunshine[edit ]
Beehives appear in Super Mario Sunshine as obstacles. If the beehive is knocked over or squirted, or even if Mario is too close, the surrounding bees go to attack Mario. A beehive always respawns, even if every bee has been defeated, and the bees stop giving chase when the beehive grows back.
Mario Pinball Land[edit ]
Beehives (spelled in both lowercase[2] and uppercase[3] ), or hives,[4] appear in Mario Pinball Land as interactive objects in the Grassy Greens Stage. Some beehives contain Bumblers, in which case their top moves left and right. The player bounces off beehives on contact. Hitting a beehive with Bumblers causes them to exit it individually, though they return to the beehive after some time. A beehive can also be entered while under the effects of a Mini Mushroom. Several Bumblers and a ? Block with a Yoshi Egg appear inside, regardless whether the beehive is empty or not, and a Star can also be obtained in this room. Exiting the beehive causes the Mini Mario form to wear off.
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat[edit ]
Stinga Combs[5] are obstacles in Donkey Kong Jungle Beat . They reveal some Stingas if clapped at.
Super Smash Bros. series[edit ]
- SmashWiki article: Beehive
The beehive from the Animal Crossing series appears as an item in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS , Super Smash Bros. for Wii U , and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate . When a beehive hits the ground, several bees emerge and swarm opponents, or the fighter hit by the beehive (including if attacked or destroyed), to deliver small amounts of damage, before vanishing.
