Fruit vendor Pianta in Delfino Plaza , Super Mario Sunshine

Baskets appear in Super Mario Sunshine as woven containers that occasionally hold items of interest.

In Delfino Plaza, there are four baskets with female Piantas next to them: One is behind the building with the entrance to Sirena Beach, one is to the right of the Shine Gate, one is on a small island near Pinna Park, and one is to the left of the Shine Gate. Each of the Piantas asks Mario to place three of a different kind of fruit in her basket: Banana bunches, Pineapples, Coconuts, and Durians, respectively. All the baskets face upright save for the one for the Durians, which lies on its side since Mario cannot carry Durians as he can with the other three fruits. When Mario puts a fruit inside a basket, the basket grows larger for a moment before the fruit vanishes; if he gets three of the requested fruit inside the basket, Mario can talk to the Pianta to receive a Blue Coin the first time and a 1-Up Mushroom on subsequent times.

In Pinna Park, there are six baskets facing upside down on the beach, each of which contains a Blue Coin. Mario must lure a Bullet Bill into the baskets to destroy them and collect the Blue Coins; this can be done only during "The Beach Cannon's Secret," due to the Bullet Bills and the Monty Mole firing them appearing only in that mission.
