The Mandibug Stack[1] [2] is a mini-boss introduced in Super Mario Galaxy . It is a normal-sized Mandibug with a smaller Mandibug on its back.
History[edit ]
Super Mario Galaxy[edit ]
The Mandibug Stack is a mini-boss in Super Mario Galaxy and its Nintendo Switch port. It is encountered during the Honeyhive Galaxy mission "Trouble on the Tower". When Mario or Luigi performs a Ground Pound on the smaller Mandibug atop the Mandibug Stack, the larger Mandibug becomes enraged, turns red, and approaches the player character faster than a regular Mandibug. When the larger Mandibug itself is ground-pounded, it is defeated, revealing the mission's Power Star.
Though the Mandibug Stack appears only in the Honeyhive Galaxy, the top of the final planet of the Honeyclimb Galaxy has five Mandibugs that are roughly the same size as and act in a similar way to the Mandibug Stack, rotating in place instead of staying still like normal Mandibugs. However, those Mandibugs do not have a smaller Mandibug on their backs, are not treated as bosses, and otherwise make the same sounds as normal Mandibugs.
Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit ]
The Mandibug Stack is a mini-boss in Super Mario Galaxy 2 . It is encountered during the Puzzle Plank Galaxy mission "The Puzzling Picture Block". The Mandibug Stack behaves and is defeated the same as in the predecessor. It shares its boss theme with King Lakitu and Boulder Bowl Galaxy's Prankster Comet mission, which in turn is a variation of Baron Brrr's boss theme from Super Mario Galaxy, unlike in the first game, where it has no theme at all. Along with Bugaboom, the Mandibug Stack is one of the only two bosses originating from Super Mario Galaxy that reappear in the sequel not to be fought in the Boss Blitz Galaxy.
