Snake , Donkey Kong Bananza

Illuminoids are arthropodic enemies in Donkey Kong Bananza , first appearing in SL 1203 of the Radiance Layer. They are monsters created by Void Co. that resemble scorpions. They are made of a red, extremely durable material called Bright Ore. Their long tails feature a stinger at the tip which is shaped like a spiked ball resembling the sun, and can extend a considerable distance.

Illuminoids remain completely stationary until they spot Donkey Kong, after which they will move towards him. They attack by quickly thrusting their tails forward, damaging Donkey Kong if it connects. If a Gloominoid damages Donkey Kong, it will chuckle at him. Because they are made of Bright Ore, which cannot be destroyed through normal means, Donkey Kong must lure Illuminoids into a spot where they are covered in shade. When not exposed to sunlight, they become weak and immobile, allowing Donkey Kong to easily defeat them with a punch, Roll Attack, or a swing of a chunk. Attempting to damage an Illuminoid in sunlight will result in it getting knocked backward.

In the DK Island & Emerald Rush DLC, a statue of an Illuminoid can be collected and placed on the north side within the North Cave of DK Island. An Emerald Perk called "Illuminoid Demolisher" can appear during an Emerald Rush, which increases the amount of emerald ore that appears after defeating a Illuminoid.

Naming[edit ]

"Illuminoid" is based on the word "illuminate", which refers to their strength coming from sunlight. The name includes the "-oid" suffix that is shared by most enemies found in the Underground World, in reference to the Void Company which created them.
