King K. Rool

The Banandium Root is a magical, conscious[1] Banandium object in Donkey Kong Bananza that can grant its wielder any wish they desire. The Banandium Root is first alluded to by the Kong Elder to Donkey Kong and Pauline, who lets them know of a legend in which whoever can reach the Planet Core, they would be granted a wish; though, they learn of the artifact's proper name from the Elephant Elder halfway through the adventure. According to the Snake Elder, the gold roots occasionally found in the Underground World stem directly from the Banandium Root as well.

Donkey Kong and Pauline henceforth decide to venture through the Underground World to the Planet Core in order to have their wishes granted (endless bananas and returning home, respectively) before Void Kong and the Void Company reaches the Planet Core first. Void Kong also desires to get to the Banandium Root, it being the very objective of VoidCo's destructive expedition, in order to get his wish for endless gold granted, and requires Pauline's singing prowess to awaken the Banandium Root.

Near the end of the adventure, it is revealed that at some point before the events of Donkey Kong Bananza take place, King K. Rool and the Kremling Krew also went searching in the Underground World to find the root. However, the Banandium Root instead seized K. Rool just as he was about to enter the Forbidden Layer after his crew, resulting in K. Rool being trapped within that layer with only his navel exposed, and the Kremlings subsequently being stuck in the Planet Core with no way out. When Donkey Kong, Pauline and Void Kong reach the Forbidden Layer, they mistake K. Rool's exposed navel for the Banandium Root, as Void Kong forces Pauline to sing, resulting in K. Rool's freedom and Void Kong's defeat.

The true Banandium Root is located in the Heart of Gold in the Planet Core. Donkey Kong, Pauline, and King K. Rool all get their wishes granted by the root, with King K. Rool using it to transmogrify himself multiple times, and turn New Donk City into a city of his own image, aiming to turn all its residents into Banandium mush and consume the entire city. Ultimately, however, K. Rool's wish gets undone by Donkey Kong and Pauline.

During the post-game quest, while Pauline is in pursuit of inspiration for a new song, Donkey Kong can return to the Banandium Root to wish for inspiration; however, Pauline stops him, insisting that she prefers to come up with a new song by herself. After completing Great Harmoneel's Windpipe, Donkey Kong can instead wish to return to the surface, which plays an alternate version of the credits roll.

The Banandium Root resembles an Ophanim, a rank of angels described in the Book of Ezekiel in the Bible, except made out of bananas.
