Variant of Cliff
Donut Block

Yellow ledges[1] are a type of cliff in New Super Mario Bros. Wii . They slowly drop if the player character either stands or grips to them for too long. They rematerialize at their original position after a brief period of time. Like on normal cliffs, the player character can only sidestep or weakly jump while on top of yellow ledges.

The mountainous World 4-2 is the only level with yellow ledges in the game, where they are continuous with normal strips of cliff. Like the normal cliffs, the yellow ledges overhang a body of water filled with Cheep Cheeps that leap out of the water to strike the player character. The player character must cause one of the yellow ledges to fall in the latter half of the level in order to reach the Goal Pole. One also must be collapsed in order to collect the final Star Coin in the level.

Yellow ledges are comparable to Donut Blocks, and are similarly named after a surimi product in Japanese. In the English localization of the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia , yellow ledges are referred to as "Ladyfinger Lifts",[2] which retains the linguistic allusion to Donut Blocks in being named after another Western pastry.
