Mini Stars are small, white stars with a rainbow tint, introduced in Mario Party 9 . They originate from outer space, and are similar to coins from the first eight Mario Party games, as players need to collect these items while advancing on the stages. When collected, they add to the current player's Mini Star total. The dark counterpart are the Mini Ztars, which deducts the total of Mini Stars collected.

Mario Party 9[edit ]

In the solo mode of Mario Party 9, it is revealed that Bowser and Bowser Jr. have used a vacuum-like machine to suck all the Mini Stars from outer space, to 'put them into good use'. Therefore, Mario and the gang go to rescue the Mini Stars.

When a minigame ends, certain amounts of Mini Stars are awarded to players in different places. After boss battles, "Captain Bonuses" are also given to the captain of the current turn. Mini Stars can also be obtained by landing on Mini Star Spaces, commonly found whenever the player lands on a Lucky Space. Captain Events also revolve around the players gaining Mini Stars in the form of special, board-specific events. The most common way to obtain Mini Stars, however, is to simply run into them on the board. On the board, they can be collected in groups of either three, five, or ten. The maximum number of Mini Stars a player can have is 999.

At the end of each board, Bonus Mini Stars are given to each player, replacing traditional Bonus Stars. Each of the Bonus Mini Stars gives the players five Mini Stars.

All Mini Stars that the player collects are converted into party points when Party Mode is finished. However, if any Mini Stars are used as a handicap, the handicap amount is deducted from the party point total. Likewise, Mini Stars that are collected in Solo Mode are converted into party points too, but only after the player completes Bowser Station. Also, if a player finishes a board with less than 10 Mini Stars, then 10 Party Points are awarded regardless and is independent for each player, but only in the Party Mode.

Mini Stars do not appear on the secret board, DK's Jungle Ruins. Instead, they are replaced by bananas. The same applies for Mini Ztars, which are replaced by Z-Bananas. Bonus Mini Stars on this board grant ten bananas each.

Mario Party: Island Tour[edit ]

Mini Stars make a return in Mario Party: Island Tour , along with Mini Ztars. They have the same role as in Mario Party 9 . They only appear on Star-Crossed Skyway board and players have to collect the most to become the superstar of the board. They can be obtained by passing through Star Stages and winning minigames.

Mario Party 10[edit ]

Mini Stars reappear in Mario Party 10 , but only in the Mario Party mode. The Mini Stars serve the same purpose as they did in Mario Party 9. Like Mario Party 9, if an assistance is used (5, 10 or 20 Mini Stars), these don't count towards the Party Point total, although the starting value counts towards the total. Unlike Mario Party 9 though, the Party Point system is dependent and there is no compensation bonus in multiplayer if only one player ends with less than 10 Mini Stars, though 10 Party Points is the minimum amount for a board playthrough. Each of the Bonus Mini Stars gives the players 10 Mini Stars (twice the amount in Mario Party 9), though only two are given.

Mario Party: The Top 100[edit ]

Mini Stars appear as collectibles in the Minigame Island from Mario Party: The Top 100 . Players earn Mini Stars whenever they clear a minigame, and the amount they receive is dependent on their placing, with the best placing receiving all Mini Stars while the worst receiving none. Some minigames give out more Mini Stars than others, such as the final minigames on the map, though the default amount each minigame has is three Mini Stars. Earning enough Mini Stars unlocks certain Special Minigames, and if players obtain all Mini Stars, they unlock Master difficulty for computer players.

Super Mario Party Jamboree[edit ]

Mini Stars return in Super Mario Party Jamboree as collectibles in the single player mode Party-Planner Trek. The player earns Mini Stars by completing tasks given by various characters. Completing a four-player minigame can reward the player with 1-3 Mini Stars depending on their placement, while completing 2 vs 2, 1 vs 3, and Duel minigames will reward the player with 2 Mini Stars. A Lakitu can be found on each board; he can be spoken to and will ask the player a series of 10 questions. Each correct answer gives the player 1 Mini Star. If the player answers incorrectly, they can retry and answer the question again as many times as needed. On Mega Wiggler's Tree Party, Roll 'em Raceway, Goomba Lagoon, Rainbow Galleria, and King Bowser's Keep, the player is required to collect 30 Mini Stars to clear the board and receive a souvenir from the yellow Toad.^[1] After collecting at least 30 Mini Stars on a board, the Mini Stars are stolen by an enemy, which must be defeated in a Boss Minigame. There are a total of 300 Mini Stars obtainable. If the player turns motion minigames off, a maximum of 263 Mini Stars can be obtained, but the player can still have 100% progress on their file after collecting them all. After defeating Impostor Bowser in Bowser Crashers, Kamek admits that he was the one trying to steal the Mini Stars because he was jealous and wanted one too. The player can then give him 1, 100, or all of their Mini Stars. He is overjoyed by this gesture and thanks the player, but explains he really wanted just one Mini Star, returning all of the Mini Stars except one if the player chose to give 100 or all of them.

If the player collects all of the Mini Stars on each board, they will receive the "Project Manager" achievement.
