Please only make request here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community (i.e., don't list your bot here if you haven't consulted the local wiki for at least a week, or whatever local policies dictate). Previous requests are archived.

Instructions
[edit ]Before posting here
[edit ]Before posting here, please check the following points:
- If there is a bureaucrat on the local wiki (visit Special:ListUsers/bureaucrat on the wiki to check): Please ask them to fulfill your request using Special:UserRights on the relevant wiki.
- Before requesting access here, make sure to obtain consensus on the local wiki if there is a community (see the index of request pages). If there is no local community, request on this page with a note to that effect. You can ask local bot flag directly here for some wikis in some cases (see automatic approval).
- Remember to read the local project's bot policy. This should be linked from the local bot request page; a few are listed below. DO NOT post your request here without having fulfilled the local policies first, and having waited for at least a week to gauge community opinion. In the case that the project does not have a local bot policy, the global bot policy applies.

Making a request
[edit ]- Place the following code at the bottom of the "Bot status requests" section below:
=== Bot name@xxproject === {{sr-request | status = <!--don't change this line--> | domain = | user name = | discussion = }} (your remarks) ~~~~
You can use following form when applying global bot status:
=== Global bot status for <yourbotname> === {{sr-request | status = <!--don't change this line--> | domain = global<!--don't change this line--> | user name = | discussion = }} {{indent|''Not ending before {{subst:#time:H:i, j F Y (T)|+2 week}}''}} (your remarks) ~~~~
-
Fill in the values:
- 'domain': the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
- 'user name': the bot's user name (like "ExampleBot"). Leave it blank if you're requesting access for multiple bots.
- 'discussion': a link to the local vote or discussion about the bot (for example, "[[ex:Wikipedia:Bots#ExampleBot]]"). Notes: If there is no local vote or discussion, please say so below the template and explain why not. If there's no community, implement the standard bot policy instead.
- If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.
Global bot status requests
[edit ]Global bots are enabled on most wikis using the standard bot policy (see list of global bot wikis and global bot access requirements). Request will be left open for at least 2 weeks to allow comments, and will be advertised via MassMessage.
Please add requests at the bottom of this section using the template above.
Global bot status for KiranBOT
[edit ]- Global user: KiranBOT (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA )
Hello. This task was approved on English Wikipedia as en:Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/KiranBOT 12, more technical details at en:User:KiranBOT/AMP. The same task is currently active on en, de, es, fr, it, and pl Wikipedias. I have applied for the bot flag on pt (Portuguese Wikipedia), it seems welcome there, but the process has been slow. I discussed about the task on Hindi Wikipedia, the task is welcome there as well. But Hindi Wikipedia allows global bots, so I have not applied for approval there yet.
bot task details: Currently, the bot runs on toolforge. It goes through recent changes of the approved Wikipedias. When the bot encounters an AMP URL (en:Accelerated Mobile Pages#Reception, and en:Accelerated Mobile Pages#Controversy), it looks for its canonical URL in the database, and replaces it with canonical. In case the URL is not present in the database, the bot adds such AMP URLs to a log file. Around once a week, I process that log file on my local computer to get the canonical values, and I add these to the database. In the early days of the bot, there were quite a few (削除) errors (削除ここまで) issues, but they have now been resolved. The edit summary is always in local language. Also, whenever I will start working on a Wikipedia, I first have to ask for variant/aliases of `archive-url` parameter. That way, I will also find out if there is something more to know about that particular Wikipedia. Kindly let me know if you have any doubts/questions. Regards, —usernamekiran (talk) 18:44, 19 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- That is only for a few wikis though, so I don't get why you need global bot status. Are you planning to run this on hundreds of wikis? Leaderboard (talk) 05:00, 21 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- @Leaderboard: yes, step by step I want to run this bot on all Wikipedias. One Wikipedia at a time to be added. For the ones that don't allow global bots, I will obtain the permission locally. —usernamekiran (talk) 09:55, 21 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- @Usernamekiran "Around once a week, I process that log file on my local computer to get the canonical values" - so there's still an element of manual work involved? Leaderboard (talk) 13:27, 21 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- @Leaderboard: In the beginning, that process was part of the program/it was fully automated. But from toolforge, that results in a very high number of 403 response, so I split it to run from my computer. My ISP provides dynamic IP addresses. That results in less 403 ("request understood, but denied", or "prove you are human") and almost no 429 response (too many requests in specific time period). —usernamekiran (talk) 17:21, 21 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- @Usernamekiran Shouldn't the focus be on fixing whatever is causing the 403s, or are you accessing non-WMF servers in your work? Also, can you share the link to the source code? The links I could find on the request pages all end up in 404s. Leaderboard (talk) 18:25, 21 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

- If this task is to "[go] through recent changes of the approved Wikipedias" why is a global flag needed? If a project approves the bot, it can get a flag on that project to reflect such approval. — xaosflux Talk 18:47, 21 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- @Xaosflux: I apologise if I worded my request incorrectly. Once the bot gets this global approval, I will run it on all the Wikipedias that allow global bots. For the Wikipedias where global bots are not allowed, I will get local approval. —usernamekiran (talk) 18:54, 21 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- Do you think that your experience on the wikis you've gotten approval for your bot can be generalised to "all Wikipedias"? I ask since I'm not sure that AMP links are something that must be replaced on a global scale. Irrespective of your answer to my question, this is not a "no", because even if you need to ask on a certain wiki, having global bot status significantly simplifies your work. Leaderboard (talk) 19:05, 21 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- @Leaderboard: yes, the bot can be generalised, and I will be careful as well. Regarding the 403 response, when bot tries to fetch/scrape a canonical URL from the amp URL, bot looks for the canonical URL in html content of the page that url leads to. I tried a few different headers (identifier for the bot) in the program, I also tried randomising these headers, but the sites detect automation, and give out 403. Using dynamic IP addresses is the optimal choice for now, toolforge has static IP. —usernamekiran (talk) 21:56, 21 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

- Support Support even though I'm not entirely convinced that replacing AMP links is a view held globally. I would still recommend checking with wikis beforehand wherever possible - having global bot does mean that you won't have to go around asking for bot rights, which tends to be a waste of time for everyone. Bot status requests

I’d like to request a bot flag for UddhritiBot. It helps manage unreferenced quotes on Assamese Wikiquote by relocating them to a separate section and keeping the main quotes clean. It also logs its activities. Thanks! ---chanakyakdas (talk) 03:29, 27 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- @-chanakyakdas: Since the bot has no local edits (except a user page creation) and isn't flagged anywhere, could you perform some test edits with it, so that we know that the bot works as intended? EPIC (talk) 16:12, 3 February 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- I see that some test edits were performed which were not publicly noted here, but I'm a little bit concerned about them. While several of them do look fine, I also notice that several others look erroneous, such as this, this and this. I'll leave this to another steward to decide. Removal of bot status
[edit ]Requests for removal of the bot status from your own bots can be done here. If a specific user is abusing their bot status, you may request removal of the status on their account here as well. Please be sure to provide a short explanation on the current situation, along with links to the bot's contribution and an announcement in your community of the abuse. Previous requests are archived.
