Steward requests/Global permissions
This is not a vote and any active Wikimedia editor may participate in the discussion.
Global rollback and global interface editor requests require no fewer than 5 days of discussion while abuse filter helper and maintainer requests require no fewer than 7 days. Global renamer and global sysop requests require no fewer than 2 weeks of discussion. For requests that are unlikely to pass under any circumstances, they may be closed by a steward without further discussion (after a reasonable amount of input).

Requests for global rollback permissions
[edit ]- Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions, and not doing so would reflect poorly on your suitability.
- Please also review the Global rollback policy.
Instructions for making a request

Before requesting, make sure that: You have sufficient activity to meet the requirements to be allocated the global rollback flag
=== Global rollback for {{subst:u|{{subst:REVISIONUSER}}}} === {{sr-request |status = <!-- don't change this line --> |domain = global <!-- don't change this line --> |user name = {{subst:REVISIONUSER}} <!-- don't change this line unless you're nominating another user --> }} ::''Not ending before {{subst:#time:j F Y H:i|+5 days}} UTC'' The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than 5 days (with rare exceptions , no matter how obvious the result may seem). This is not a vote, and all input is welcome. Stewards will determine whether consensus exists; when doing so it is likely that the weight given to the input of those involved in cross-wiki work will be most influential. |
Requests for global sysop permissions

Hi all, I am here requesting for global rename permissions. I would like to help and deal with Special:GlobalRenameQueue, and especially rename request on zhwiki (aka my home wiki). I've read and clearly understand the policy, FAQ and other local policies. Although I'm not a sysop on any wikimedia projects, but I believe it's not a big deal to grn, I will try to do my best with this role. Appreciate if y'all could give me a try.

Global IP block exempt for Pigsonthewing
[edit ]- Global user: Pigsonthewing (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA )
I have longstanding IP exemption on en.Wikipedia, because I regularly give demos or train people as part of GLAM outreach, at venues whose networks are blocked. I also work on trains, using public WI-Fi. However I have also experienced difficulty recently due to inability to edit Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons and other projects in such circumstances. Please make me globally exempt. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:48, 25 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- Already done by Xaosflux. Note that GIPBE only exempts you from global blocks - if you are affected by local hardblocks, you need to request a local IP block exemption. EPIC (talk) 10:54, 26 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

I'm a file mover for Wikimedia Commons, and during a recent file move work I found that some wikis have captchas that prevent me from using a script to change the name of a file in the corresponding wiki to the name after the move. Thus, based on precedent, I'm requesting this right. Thank you. --Iming (talk) 16:36, 12 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- Hey Iming, have you tried using User:Krinkle/Tools/Global SUL? That is fixing most captcha problems after a few days. Best regards, TenWhile6 00:10, 20 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- Hi TenWhile6, thank you for your advice! Creating accounts in all wikimedia series wikis using this script does avoid some wiki related problems. However, let me clarify that there are still some wikis that still show captchas for non-autoconfirmed users, provided a local account exists. (Some wikis require a certain number of edits for autoconfirmed users, in addition to the registered time.) Obviously, I don't have the language skills to contribute to the wiki in question, thus making this very difficult. It's also unclear which wikis still have this problem, so I'd still like to request this right rather than requesting local confirm user right at each wiki to avoid future problems. Thank you. Iming (talk) 00:33, 20 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- @Iming: That's fair, but I think you should still do both – saves you more work than needed in the long run by using Global SUL and significantly helped me before I got GR with Commons file moves. --SHB (t • c) 02:28, 20 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

- In the past whenever the script would not be able to edit at some wiki it would create a job for a bot that would do the replacement instead. Is that not the case anymore? It has been a while since I have been very active as a Commons filemover myself. --Base (talk) 20:30, 24 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- Hello @Base
- I'm not Imming, but I'll answer your question. Of course the Delinker bot still exists, it would be pretty stupid if it didn't, because unlike us file movers, the bot is practically extended confirmed in all language versions so that the bot can also edit archives, user subpages or blocked pages. But that's not the point, ultimately it's about why should Iming give the bot a command when he can do it just as well under its own name? זיו「Ziv」 (talk) 21:44, 24 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

Hello Stewards.
I'm a file mover on Commons. I would like to request extended rights so that I can edit in all language versions without Captcha. Thank you very much if you could make this possible. --זיו「Ziv」 (talk) 19:40, 14 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

- Hello @TenWhile6
- No, I haven't tried the tool, I didn't even know that it existed. But I knew that you can apply for the right to suppress captchas here and actually I only did it because I was annoyed by the poorly made captchas on Wikipedia when manually replacing image file names in some language versions, as a glasses wearer with a very strong correction. I often ended up typing the letters incorrectly. Normally you need a certain number of posts for the captcha to eventually disappear, that's what happened to me on the Japan Wiki, and on the China Wiki a friendly sysop quickly upgraded me so that I could edit freely. And this tool solves the problem? Does it suppress the captcha? It's also about moving files automatically. I can try out the tool. Can I ask? Captcha rights are apparently not granted very often? Although it would certainly make sense for Filemover. זיו「Ziv」 (talk) 00:53, 20 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- That will solve the problem on 90%+ of projects, as they do not require edits to be autoconfirmed. Use it once, then wait 4 days. — xaosflux Talk 01:09, 20 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- Addition, OK, I've looked at some user accounts that have this tool activated. It seems that it just creates a lot of accounts, otherwise I don't understand the exact function of it. Ultimately, however, the filemover script does this too when I move a file from Commons and that's why I'm now connected to 489 accounts. The tool doesn't seem to help me at all. I stick to it, I would really like to have the rights. Merci זיו「Ziv」 (talk) 01:10, 20 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- The reason it works is because most of our SUL projects will autopromote accounts to the "autoconfirmed" group 4 days after you register there. That tool causes your account to be registered on every project. Autoconfirmed includes "skipcaptcha". — xaosflux Talk 01:23, 20 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

Dear Wikimedians, I would like to ask for global abuse filter helper rights. Besides being a global sysop and rollbacker, I’m an active dewiki & metawiki abuse filter maintainer [1] [2]. Due to my experience with abuse filters I sometimes assist in creating and improving abuse filters on wikis where I’m not local admin, for example Wikidata. This would be much easier with abuse filter helper permissions and allow me to see the hitlist of private filters. GAFH would also give me the opportunity to analyse private filters on other wikis and import parts of them to dewiki or metawiki, which is very helpful in case of crosswiki vandalism. Recently I had this case again and because I didn't have GAFH, stewards/local admins had to send me the abusefilter content. This is doable in the beginning but when this process is needed every time, it’s annoying for both them and me.
Feel free to ask if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks, --TenWhile6 10:43, 24 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
