Steward requests/Global permissions

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
This page hosts requests for global permissions. To make a request, read the relevant policy (global rollback , global sysop , global rename , ...) and make a request below. Explain why membership is needed for that group, and detail prior experience or qualifications.

This is not a vote and any active Wikimedia editor may participate in the discussion.

Global rollback and global interface editor requests require no fewer than 5 days of discussion while abuse filter helper and maintainer requests require no fewer than 7 days. Global renamer and global sysop requests require no fewer than 2 weeks of discussion. For requests that are unlikely to pass under any circumstances, they may be closed by a steward without further discussion (after a reasonable amount of input).

Requests for global rollback permissions

[edit ]
Please be sure to follow the instructions below:
Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions, and not doing so would reflect poorly on your suitability.
Please also review the Global rollback policy.
Please note that Global rollbackers discussions are not votes. Comments must present specific points in favor of or against a user's approval.
Instructions for making a request

Before requesting, make sure that:

You have sufficient activity to meet the requirements to be allocated the global rollback flag

To make a request
Copy the template below to the bottom of this section and explain of why you need the access and why you're suitable.
=== Global rollback for {{subst:u|{{subst:REVISIONUSER}}}} ===
{{sr-request
 |status = <!-- don't change this line -->
 |domain = global <!-- don't change this line -->
 |user name = {{subst:REVISIONUSER}} <!-- don't change this line unless you're nominating another user -->
}}
::''Not ending before {{subst:#time:H:i j F Y (T)|+5 days}}''
The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than 5 days (with rare exceptions , no matter how obvious the result may seem). This is not a vote, and all input is welcome. Stewards will determine whether consensus exists; when doing so it is likely that the weight given to the input of those involved in cross-wiki work will be most influential.

Hello everyone,

I'm Sandra "User:SanBonne" I am looking to obtain global rollback rights to better assist with fighting cross-wiki vandalism and spam, especially on smaller wikis which has small number of active patrollers.

I've been active across Wikimedia projects since 2019, currently serve as an admin on the Arabic Wikipedia, and hold rights on several other projects. I am active user on SWV, and identified with the Wikimedia Foundation. For more details on my contributions and global work, feel free to check out my Meta page.--SanBonne (talk) 09:23, 28 July 2026 (UTC) reply

Global rollback for GatoLiteral

[edit ]
Status: In progress
Not ending before 23:52 4 August 2026 (UTC)

Hello, my name is Jonatan, i would like to have the global rollback right because I feel I am doing a good job reverting edits on my wiki, and I also occasionally collaborate and perform reverts on smaller wikis.

I would like to have that permission primarily to combat vandalism, Long-term abuse and sockpuppets on Wikipedia, and also to be able to help out more quickly on the site.

I know I sometimes make mistakes when reverting edits, but let's remember that I need the permission to handle larger-scale cleanup; I always try to assume good faith.

Another thing is that I'm starting to become somewhat active on SWV, and with that tool, I can revert all the global vandalism that's circulating and do it faster. And I would also like to hear your comments on this.

  • Oppose Oppose – sorry, but your x-wiki matrix is far too limited. I'd like to see a longer history of x-wiki antivandalism first. //shb (tc) 10:40, 31 July 2026 (UTC) reply
  • Oppose Oppose as in not now (even if I don't like to pile on). I've taken a look at your actions, but as SHB I would like to see a longer activity as well. Happy to support in the future.--A09 |(pogovor) 13:45, 31 July 2026 (UTC) reply

The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than two weeks (no exceptions are allowed no matter how obvious the result may seem). This is not a vote, and all input is welcome. Stewards will determine whether consensus exists; when doing so it is likely that the weight given to the input of those involved in cross-wiki work will be most influential. While all input is welcome, there is a hard 80% support requirement for this role as per the global renamer policy.

Hello! I would like to receive the global rename flag. I work quite actively with ruWiki accounts, often helping participants figure out how to rename their accounts, including by responding to emails sent to VRT. I would like to help my colleagues who rename ruWiki accounts, and I am generally willing to assist in this area. I have read the Global renamers policy and the Global rename policy. Thanks! Requests for global IP block exemption

[edit ]
Please be sure to follow the instructions below:
Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions. Please review Global IP block exemption. You may request Global IP block exemption via stewards(_AT_)wikimedia.org if you can not edit this page.
Please note: Global IP block exemption does NOT make one immune to locally-created blocks of any sort, only global blocks.
If you want to edit the Chinese Wikipedia, usually global IP block exemptions will not help you. Please see this instruction to request a local IP block exemption.
Instructions for making a request

Before requesting global IP block exemption, make sure that:

  1. You have a global account ;
  2. You are logged in on this wiki, and the account is part of your global account;
To request global IP block exemption
Copy the template below to the bottom of this section and explain why you need the access and why you're suitable. If needed, link to relevant discussions.

 |domain = global<!--don't change this line-->

<Add an explanation here>, thanks, --~~~~
The request will be approved if there is demonstrated need for the permission, such as bypassing a global block from someone who is not the intended target.

Global IP block exempt for 逝水流觞

[edit ]
Status: In progress

Because of the Great Firewall, I've requested for IPBE in zhWiki. When I upload images to wiki commons it shows my IP has been global blocked , so I request for global IPBE to upload file into wiki commons逝水流觞 (talk) 03:47, 24 July 2026 (UTC) reply

You can apply for the IPBE of WikimediaCommons.
In addition, if you live in mainland China, you can directly access WikimediaCommons instead of using a network proxy. Because it is not within the blockade of GFW.
阁下可申请WikimediaCommons的IPBE。
另外,如果您居住在中国大陆,您可直接访问WikimediaCommons 而非使用网络代理。因为其不在防火长城的封锁范围。 Chatsven (talk) 04:56, 24 July 2026 (UTC) reply
Chatsven (talk) 08:25, 25 July 2026 (UTC) reply

Global IP block exempt for Làm Việc Thiện

[edit ]
Status: In progress

I am an autopatrolled user on the Vietnamese Wikipedia. While performing patrol work on Wikimedia Commons, I found that I was affected by a block. I would appreciate it if an administrator could grant my account the IP block exemption right so that I can continue patrolling. --Làm Việc Thiện (talk) 07:55, 31 July 2026 (UTC) reply

Global IP block exempt for Jackyming

[edit ]
Status: In progress

Dear Stewards,

Please note that I used a translation tool to write this application as my English is limited.

I am a Hong Kong citizen with Chinese nationality. Due to freedom of speech restrictions in my country and the fact that my political stance is considered illegal there, I have a long-standing habit of using a VPN to edit, even when residing in South Korea, to protect myself. However, my VPN IP addresses are frequently blocked, and having to apply for IP block exemption individually on every project is very troublesome for me, so I would like to apply for Global IP Block Exemption.

I need to declare first that I have applied for this permission multiple times and was rejected, actually four or five times (I forgot the exact number). The reasons for rejection included that I was previously blocked for abusing sockpuppets. I must admit that I did engage in such behavior, which led others not to trust me and to reasonably suspect that I might abuse the Global IP Block Exemption. However, I hereby pledge that I will not abuse this permission. If I abuse this privilege, I am willing to have it revoked immediately and be blocked.

In June this year, I applied via email again (see ticket:2026060410007355), but it was rejected. Stewards believed that since I had been rejected multiple times, if I needed to apply, I should apply on the public page to maintain transparency. That is why I am applying here now.

As for why I am applying again now, it is because I believe the reasons for my previous rejections have been resolved: 1. I have not engaged in any vandalism for the past year (I am open to CheckUser verification to confirm this). 2. Recently, I successfully obtained rollbacker and temporary-account-viewer rights on Chinese Wikipedia, which proves that I have been involved in anti-vandalism over the past year and have accumulated a lot of experience. I am now an anti-vandalism contributor rather than a vandal.

In July this year, I applied for IP block exemption on Meta-Wiki; originally, I thought they would only grant me permission for one to two years, but they surprisingly granted me permanent rights. This touched me deeply because it was the first time someone outside Chinese Wikipedia granted me permanent permission, which firmly reassured me that what I have done over the past year was not wrong and that people are willing to recognize my efforts.

Therefore, I hope you can reconsider my application and grant me Global IP Block Exemption so that I do not need to apply for IP block exemption separately when switching between different Wikimedia projects. Having to apply for permissions every time I edit a different project is troublesome, and the fact that I currently hold IP block exemption rights on 7 projects proves that I need this permission.

Yours sincerely, --Jackyming 14:11, 1 August 2026 (UTC) reply
