Fishing is a game mechanic in Mario & Luigi: Brothership . It is unlocked after connecting Lottacoins Island, which prompts a Concordian fisherman to give Mario and Luigi a Fishing Rod and allow them to purchase bait from his fishing friend.

Either Mario or Luigi can be chosen to attempt fishing, responding to A Button and B Button respectively while reeling in the fish. According to the Snoutlet School, this can influence the chance of certain fish being caught.

This mechanic is mainly used to obtain various fish, which can be either sold for a high price, or used as materials for workshop requests. Additionally, certain quests begin after fishing up message in bottles. One Treasurefish is required, among other items, to obtain the Seedle-ize Battle Plug.

Certain fish can only be caught in some seas, requiring the Shipshape Island to be in that sea while fishing.

Gameplay[edit ]

Fishing[edit ]

To fish, the player must watch the window showing the bobber closely. Once a fish or an item is hooked, the surrounding water will ripple violently. A speech bubble with an exclamation mark will pop up (with the number of exclamation marks alluding to the hooked item's rarity). At that point, depending on which of the brothers is fishing, the player must press A Button or B Button as quickly as possible to reel it in. If too much time has passed, the fish escapes along with the bait used.

Baits[edit ]

Baits are necessary items used for fishing, bought from the blue Concordian fisherman next to the fishing spot. There are three kinds of baits, and each has its own effects.
