Arc, Mario & Luigi: Brothership

Arc is a major supporting character in Mario & Luigi: Brothership . Knowledgeable on Ocean Maps, he helps Mario and Luigi sail the seas of Concordia on Shipshape Island. He also hopes to find his missing father, Patriarc. Arc is a young boy with teal skin who wears a navy-blue sailor outfit with a compass on his hat. His name, in addition to being a given name, is a word with several definitions. In geometry, an arc refers to a curved line, relating to Arc's expertise in mapping. The word can also be short for electric arc and island arc, referencing how Arc is able to track drifting islands on currents. Alternatively, Arc's name could be a reference to Noah's Ark, a Biblical ship.

History[edit ]

Background[edit ]

The spyglass Arc uses to survey the sea was created by Technikki for a contest in Merrygo. Humiliated by her loss to Adaphne, Technikki threw the spyglass into the sea, where it would later be found by Arc.

When Concordia split apart, Arc and his father were stranded on Raynforst Island, where they surveyed the newly formed islands. Shortly afterwards, they were abducted by Snaptors and taken to a Great Lighthouse. To save his son, Patriarc sealed Arc within a capsule and tossed it into the ocean.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership[edit ]

After Rumbla Island is linked, the capsule containing Arc washes ashore Shipshape Island. He gives Mario and Luigi an Ocean Map so that they can find the islands where Billdit and Maykit are, as they can make the brothers hammers to break the capsule. Once freed, Arc further explains how to use the Ocean Map, allowing Willma's other child to be found. Throughout the game, Arc observes the ocean and gives Mario and Luigi news of which islands they are heading towards.

In the side quest Arc's Secret, Arc is distressed about losing his spyglass, as it holds many memories of his father. Thankfully, Mario and Luigi find it on Raynforst Island. If this side quest is not cleared before it expires, Arc is given his spyglass from Raynforst Island islanders.

If Mario and Luigi show Arc any of Patriarc's notes found in the Great Lighthouse Islands, Arc gains confidence that his father is alive and advises Mario and Luigi to hang onto the notes since they were written for a hero to find, although Arc thanks Mario and Luigi for showing him the notes.

Following Reclusa's awakening, Arc attempts to warn Mario and Luigi of an emergency but gets trapped by one of Reclusa's flowers, and is placed into a fantasy where he sees Patriarc again. After Reclusa is defeated and Mario and Luigi prepare to return to the Mushroom Kingdom, Arc, now freed from the flower's grip, asks if Mario and Luigi could stay in Concordia but accepts that it cannot be that way.

During the end credits, Arc can be seen hanging out with Buddy. Suddenly, Patriarc returns, and Arc runs over to hug him as the two reunite.
