In The Shadow Of Time
In The Shadow Of Time is a Side Quest in Hogwarts Legacy. Completing this quest will reward you with items that can be used throughout your adventures. This guide applies to all versions of Hogwarts Legacy, including the original PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S versions of Hogwarts Legacy, as well as the Nintendo Switch version.

Where To Find In The Shadow Of Time
To unlock In The Shadow Of Time, you'll need to complete In The Shadow Of Discovery. After you do that, you'll have to meet Sebastian Sallow in the Feldcroft Region and begin talking to him.

In The Shadow Of Time Walkthrough
As soon as you talk to Sebastian, he'll say that the relic may be in the catacomb. After he says that, you can say one of the following:

| Was there anything else in the student's report? | Sebastian will say that other things in the book are worth studying. |
When you enter the catacomb, follow the main path. As soon as you reach the open room, you'll be ambushed by spiders. Defeat all of the enemies to clear the area.
Collection Chest
The first Collection Chest is located in this room. Find the box on the south part of the room, and cast Accio to move it to the northwest part of the room where there is a ledge to climb. Cast Levioso on the box to make it hover above the ground, then climb the box to reach the top of the ledge and loot the Collection Chest.
Next, continue down the main path. You'll be led to another room full of spiders. After that, make a left, and you'll be led to another empty room.
Collection Chest
To find the second Collection Chest, locate a hidden tunnel behind a barrier of stacked rocks that leads you north. Use your Basic Cast to clear the rocks and head north down the path.
You’ll find yourself in a room filled with Devil’s Snare and closed double doors on the other side of the room. To solve this puzzle, jump into the pit and cast Lumos to make the Devil’s Snare on the western end of the room recoil. Then, quickly cast Accio to pull the handles on the wall to find skeleton bones. Hold Accio on the bones to turn the spell into Wingardium Leviosa and move the bones to the eastern part of the room (where you entered) to rebuild the bridge.
Cross the bone bridge and cast Accio or Depulso to open the double doors in front of you. Continue down the path until you reach a barred door. Find the Collection Chest on the southwest edge of the room.
Next to the altar, you'll find a Student Journal. Pick it up to further the quest, then speak to Sebastian about it.
He'll then recommend you guys split up to cover more ground, after Sebastian says that you can say one of the following:

When the two of you are done talking, you'll want to clear the path in the middle. The one on the right will lead you to a chest with gear, and the other one will lead to even more gear.
Find a way through the barricade
To open the blocked door, you'll have to use Accio and carry the bones to the barricade.
Now that you've opened the door, you'll be led to another room, and Sebastian will offer to teach you Imperio an unforgivable curse.
Learning Imperio
You'll have the option to say the following:

| Yes, I'd like to learn the Imperius Curse. | Sebastian will teach you how to perform the spell, and you'll continue on with the quest. |
| How do you know the Imperius Curse? | Sebastian will say that he taught himself the curse. |
| What does learning the Curse entail? | Sebastian will explain that the curse will do. |
Make your choice -- learning the Unforgivable Curses is entirely optional and will continue the quest no matter the choice.
Once the two of you are done talking, you'll be ambushed by a group of spiders. If you make a left, this will lead you to another room full of spiders. But if you clear the area, you'll find a legendary chest.
Meanwhile, you'll enter another puzzle room if you make a right. To solve this, place all the bones in front of the door like before. After you solve the puzzle, you'll be ambushed again by another group of spiders in the next room.
Now that you've cleared the room walk towards the table and pick up The Relic's Note. You'll then want to talk to Sebastian. After he's done talking, you'll be able to say one of the following:
- We should leave the relic alone.
- We need that relic.
Sebastian will take the relic, and you'll need to leave the catacomb. As you begin to walk out, Ominis will greet you at the other end of the hall. The two will get into another verbal fight, and you'll have to calm down, Ominis. As soon as you begin talking to Ominis, he'll ask for your help, and you can say one of the following:
- Very well. Let's talk with Sebastian.
- I cannot side with you. Sebastian's right.
Your character will then suggest using Imperio on him so that way Ominis can forget what's about to happen. After you suggest that, you can say one of the following:
- Never mind.
- Yes. That is precisely what I'm suggesting.
Ominis will then allow you to leave with the relic after the two of you are done talking. As you walk back to Sebastian town, you'll realize it's under attack. You'll have to fight off the attackers when you get close enough to the town.
After you defend the town, a cutscene will start, and the two of you will begin talking when it ends. As soon as Sebastian is done talking, you can say one of the following:
- You did the right thing.
- It may have been the wrong choice.
Sebastian will then go back to Hogwarts, and you'll have to talk to his uncle. Sallow will explain that what Sebastian did was unacceptable, and you'll have the chance to say one of the following:
- Sebastian saved his sister.
- Sebastian went too far.
Sallow won't forgive him, and he'll banish the both of you from the town, and if you both continue to use dark magic, he'll tell the school. After the two of you are done talking, the quest will end.
