Collection Chest Locations

Exploring Hogwarts Legacy will reveal chests and containers of all types, but some are more important than others. Collection Chests contain random wand handle cosmetics or conjuration recipes for your Room of Requirement, and can be found all over Hogwarts Castle, Hogsmeade, and the Highlands open world. You'll be able to find and unlock each collection chest with our guides to every region. This guide applies to all versions of Hogwarts Legacy, including the original PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S versions of Hogwarts Legacy, as well as the Nintendo Switch version.

Unlike regular chests that contain random gear, and Eyeball Chests that contain money, Collection Chests are the only type of chest that are tracked both on the minimap, and on your map list of collectibles. The contents of the chest depend on its shape: the triangle-studded boxes will always contain a random Conjuration Recipe, while the cylindrical chests will always contain a random wand handle you can equip. Once you begin to explore the open world in The Highlands, you'll find a third type of chest in bandit camps that gives a Attribute Trait to enchant on your gear.

Note that you won't be able to make use of Conjuration Recipes at all until you unlock the Room of Requirement a bit into the story, and you can't customize your starting wand until you purchase a new one at Ollivander's in Hogsmeade early into the main story. You also can't use Attribute Traits on gear until you get the Loom addition for the Room of Requirement, which is quite a few missions after discovering your home base.

Collection Chest Sections

With almost 200 Collection chests scattered across Hogwarts Legacy's various regions, there are many to be found in both the vast open world, and the maze-like confines of Hogwarts Castle. Collection Chests often (though not always) follow a pattern: Many of them in Hogwarts are locked behind Arithmancy Doors, or from unlocking Hogwarts Secrets. Meanwhile there are some in Hogsmeade behind locked doors requiring the unlocking spell, and others found in the Highlands open world are found in enemy camps.
