Whamps[1] are wedge-shaped stone creatures found in Mario Kart World . They resemble Whomps as seen in Super Mario Galaxy 2 , albeit with a frown instead of their regular mouths, and with three horizontal bandages on their back (resembling an arrow) as opposed to cross-shaped bandages. They appear on routes, slowly roaming around before attempting to crush any passing driver. After slamming down, their backs can be used as ramps to trick off. Driving into them with a Super Star will cause them to slam down instantly. If a driver passes by its feet as it slams down, a Whamp can push a racer through the ground.[2]
Whamps are found around courses such as Airship Fortress, Bowser's Castle, Cheep Cheep Falls, and Dry Bones Burnout. They are found in the following routes:
- Second lap towards Dandelion Depths in the Leaf Cup
- Fourth section of the Ice Rally
- Fourth section of the Acorn Rally
- Second section of the Heart Rally

Whamp is a portmanteau of "Whomp" and "ramp".
