Big the Cat, commonly referred to as simply Big, is a crossover character from the Sonic the Hedgehog series whose only appearances in the Super Mario franchise is the Mario & Sonic series. He has a best friend and pet named Froggy, who is a regular frog.

Mario & Sonic series[edit ]
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games[edit ]
Big appears only in the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, as a referee in the Athletics and Rowing events. Big can also be seen behind the podium in the Athletics events during the awards ceremony.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games[edit ]
Big also appeared in both the Wii and Nintendo DS version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games . In the Wii version, Big appears as a VIP Member, and along with Birdo is the only character to give the player a costume as well as 100 Star Points. An unlockable costume for Mii characters of Big also appears in the game. He can also sometimes make a cameo fishing off the side of a building in Dream Snowboard Cross.[1]
In the DS version of the game, Big appears as one of the characters hosting a mission. He is found in Polastraits, wondering what is the "sign" near him. Amy tries to explain that each mission's details is written there. However, Big still does not understand and Amy had to try out the mission and complete it to make him understand. When she does, he rewards the player with a Spark Luge. The mission Amy has to take is Alpine Skiing GS.
Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games[edit ]
Big makes a cameo appearance in the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games as an unlockable Mii costume.
Big also appears in the Story mode of the Nintendo 3DS version, where he appears in To the Ruins! looking for Froggy. Omega is launched at Big by Magikoopa's magic, which restores some of Omega's memory. Toad thanks Big, and heads back to London with Mario, Luigi, Sonic, Tails and Omega. After the group leaves, Big manages to find Froggy and the pair start making their own way to London. A badge of Big can also be obtained from the badge machine.
Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games[edit ]
Big appears in the Wii U version of Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games , where he also appears as an unlockable Mii costume. In this game, players can access the Pousada after talking to Big on Copacabana beach.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate , Big appears as a spirit. His spirit battle is against a giant Incineroar in its purple costume on the Battlefield form of the Windy Hill Zone stage with terrain that makes the player fighter fall asleep.
