Keirin is a Cycling Event that appears exclusively in the Nintendo 3DS version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games . The aim of this event is to be the first to cross the finish line in the fastest time. The starting record for this event is 10.540.
Gameplay[edit ]
In this event, the player must complete the final sprint of the event by quickly tapping A Button to sprint and cross the finish line faster than their opponents. The faster the player taps A Button, the faster their character will sprint. Once all of the characters have crossed the finish line, the player will then be shown a series of photos showing who won the race. The photos initially start off showing just before the finish line was crossed, and then regularly approach the finish until the first character crosses the finish line. Once that character's photo has been shown, the photos then jump to the positions of the remaining characters, regardless of whether the time between each is equal. After the photos reveal the characters' positions, the times are given, with the placement order being given by the photos.

Medley Match[edit ]
When Keirin appears in medleys, it uses a slightly different set of rules, where the characters currently placing lower overall in the medley will receive an advantage on those that are currently doing better. Instead of places being awarded depending on the order of finishing the race, points for the medley are awarded instead, with 15 points being awarded to the character that came first, 10 to second place, 5 to third place and none to the character that finishes last. Keirin appears as the second event of the Cycling Medley and the Keep on Keeping On Medley, and the fourth event of the De-Stress Medley.
Story Mode[edit ]
In the game's story mode, Keirin appears as the second part of the fourth challenge of Girls Episode 2, Peach in a Pinch, in which Blaze must beat three Blaze imposters in it, as well as in Balance Beam and Archery (Individual). It also appears as the second part of the challenge of Girls Bonus 1, An Innocent Request, in which Amy must beat Blaze in it as well as in Archery (Individual) and Omnium.
