Power up item

Power Pods[1] are satellites that appeared in the Game Boy game Solar Striker and in the game adaptation in the Super Mario Land 4 manga. Upon being shot, a Power Pod is turned into a power up item[2] that, when picked up, upgrades the SolarStriker's weapons.

Power Pods are simple hexagonal satellites with four solar panels and a "0" written on it (turned into a shocked face in the manga). Power up items have the same shape, but with spike-like limbs (turned into actual human limbs in the manga), and have a "P" written on it. In the game instruction booklet, Power Pods are listed in the Reticulon Army enemy list, but in the manga they are created and launched by the Federation Army to aid the SolarStriker pilots.

During the story, Mario is able to collect the power-up items as soon as he activates the weapons on the ship, quickly gaining the powerful Turbo Missiles, decimating, one after the other, the enemies. After a Blazer hits the ship, Marīo, Pichi-hime, and Princess Peach are sucked out of the ship and get lost in space, but lands on a Power Pod where Mario will later find them.
