Mildes[1] are small, pink ball-like enemies in the Yoshi series. They appear marching around in lines, and like balloons, they will pop if a Yoshi steps on one, the resulting blast knocking back any enemies that are close to them. Mildes have hefty, big and mega variations of increasingly larger sizes, which have to be Ground Pounded to be defeated. Mildes resemble Kirby from the Kirby series.

History[edit ]

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island / Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3[edit ]

Mildes first appear in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and reappear in its Game Boy Advance version Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 as common enemies. They appear walking commonly in groups with other Mildes or different enemies, causing their blast to be potentially dangerous, as it can cause the other enemies to bounce around. They first appear in the level Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy and reappear in The Baseball Boys, What's Gusty Taste Like?, Jungle Rhythm..., Marching Milde's Fort, Chomp Rock Zone, Hookbill The Koopa's Castle, and King Bowser's Castle. In the Game Boy Advance version, Mildes also appear in Go! Go! Morphing! and Items are fun! Two large variants known as Hefty Milde and Big Milde also appear. In the Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 Player's Guide's Enemy Encyclopedia section, Mildes are listed under the "Edibilis Boringus" subheader.[2]

The mid-boss of world 4, Marching Milde, is a giant Milde that, upon being damaged, splits into smaller Mildes.

Yoshi's New Island[edit ]

Mildes return in Yoshi's New Island where they only appear in Furious Fred de Fillet's Castle and Spray Day Mayday. They act like in the previous game with the only difference being that they no longer appear in groups. In Furious Fred de Fillet's Castle, when a ball and chain falls to the ground, it makes all Mildes present stay still for a moment. Hefty Mildes also return, and can be split into regular Mildes the same way as before.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book[edit ]

This section is referring to a subject in an upcoming or recently released game. After the game is released on May 21, 2026, or more information about this subject is found, this section may need major rewriting.
This notice should be removed after a month has passed since the game was first released.

After being absent in Yoshi's Woolly World and Yoshi's Crafted World , Mildes reappear in Yoshi and the Mysterious Book , where one can be seen in the game box art. Their appearance in the game is taken from their Yoshi's Island artwork. Hefty and Big Mildes also return, which can split into their smaller counterparts the same way, but this time can also be spawned from pink pools of varying sizes if one is popped in them; if many Mildes are popped a Hefty or Big Milde will be spawned depending on the size of the pool. If Yoshi lingers too long in one of these pools he will sink and be engulfed by a Hefty Milde. The game also introduces an even larger variant similar to Marching Milde, known as the Mega Milde, spawned in a similar fashion from the largest pools.

They are depicted as being bubble gum-like, and when Yoshi eats a Milde, he spits out a bubble that eventually transforms back into a Milde. If a Milde is spat at or thrown towards another Milde, they will stick together.

A Milde's pop will disperse puddles, splashing water that can be used to revive wilted Smiley Flowers. Honey-covered Mildes will attract Bunchabee swarms, which will be defeated when they pop it. Mildes will pop when parasitized by Scatterpuffs. When Jetty Jellys touch a pink pool, it will turn pink and spawn Mildes when flying. Mildes are unlocked by completing Taggit in chapter 2.

Profiles[edit ]

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island / Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3[edit ]

  • Shogakukan guide: 踏むとプチッとはじけて、近くの敵をはじぎ飛ばす。[3] (When you step on it, it bursts with a pop, sending nearby enemies flying away.)
  • Player's Guide: Seemingly always underfoot, these pink plodders look mighty pleased with themselves.[1]
  • Shogakukan guide (Game Boy Advance version): ふむとプチッと音を立て、近くの敵を少しだけはじぎ飛ばす。[4] (When you step on it, it makes a popping sound and sends nearby enemies flying away a little bit.)

Yoshi's New Island[edit ]

  • Shogakukan guide: 色はピンクでかわいらしい外見をしているが、れっきとした敵。踏むだけでも倒せるが、簡単に食ベられるので、タマゴの数を増やすために利用したい。[5] (They are pink in color and look cute, but they are actually enemies. You can defeat them by simply stepping on them, but since they can be easily eaten, you should use them to increase your egg supply.)

Naming[edit ]

"Milde" is probably derived from "mild", referring to their small, slow nature, and possibly "smile". It can be also based on mildew, a type of fungal growth, in a reference to their spore-like shape.

When the name is suggested by Mr. E in Yoshi and the Mysterious Book , he says the following:

“It has a broad smile and mild disposition...so how about Milde?”
Mr. E
