ADB Internship Program

Check Your Eligibility

To be eligible for the ADB Internship Program, you must:

  • Be a national of an ADB member country.
  • Possess an excellent command of English.
  • Be enrolled in a Master’s or PhD-level program from a school in an ADB member nation for the entire duration of the internship.
  • Be engaged in academic study in any of the diverse fields that are directly related to ADB’s work.

Application and Selection

  1. Choose an assignment from the options listed under the "Current Opportunities" tab.

  2. Submit your application through the ADB Career and Employment System (ACES), along with documents like CV and Proof of Enrolment. Submissions after the deadline will not be considered.

  3. You will be notified if you are invited for an interview.

  4. Selections will be made in February for interns starting in June. The internship will be for 8-11 weeks.

No. ADB does not accept applications from close relatives of ADB staff, such as:

  • Spouse*
  • Children (natural and adopted)
  • Mother

  • Brother (including half-brother)
  • Sister (including half-sister)
  • Niece
  • Nephew
  • Aunt
  • Uncle

* ADB is piloting a spouse employment program to allow the consideration of spouse and registered domestic partner candidates of international staff for international staff vacancies. This pilot does not apply to spouse or registered domestic partner candidates of national and administrative staff.

Yes, if you meet the eligibility requirements.

All interns will receive a stipend for the duration of the internship, unless they fall under a special arrangement category between select schools and ADB.

You will cover your accommodation, transportation, food expenses, and part of the airfare. It is also a strict requirement to purchase a comprehensive insurance coverage for the entire period of the internship prior to departure to Manila.

ADB will cover a limited part of the airfare travel cost, should air travel be necessary between the internship location and the authorized point of origin (i.e. school location).

Internship assignments are mostly based at the ADB’s headquarters in Manila, Philippines. Resident Missions may offer assignments (locations are specified in the posting).

As a general rule, interns are not allowed to travel during the internship assignment.

For Manila-based internships, you must ensure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months prior to arrival and departure from Manila. If your nationality requires an entry visa, ADB will request it from the Philippine Embassy in your location, where you can submit your visa application.

The regular work schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break. Any other preferred scheduled should be discussed with supervisors.

Past interns are not eligible to apply for the ADB Internship Program.

Completing an internship does not automatically qualify for employment at ADB. Former interns are welcomed to apply for open positions after graduation.
