Researchers and academics in the field of economics are instrumental to our development efforts. We invite you to present your ongoing work and trade thoughts with leading experts at the ADB headquarters in Manila.
You’ll exchange research ideas and advise on our current and upcoming projects with our team—experts with deep, on-the-ground experience across the region.
You’ll present or lecture on your perspective on a research topic of mutual interest. These include climate change and environmental sustainability, digital transformation, human capital and the future of work, inclusive development, macro and financial stability, private sector development, and regional cooperation and integration.
You should hold a PhD in Economics or a related discipline such as development economics, public policy, finance, political economy, statistics, or data science with strong economic applications. A strong research track record is important, demonstrated through publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed academic journals, preferably indexed in SSCI, ESCI, or recognized field-specific rankings. Experience in conducting empirical research using rigorous quantitative or qualitative methods is essential, along with the ability to translate research into policy recommendations or contribute to policy-relevant projects.
Applications are accepted annually from 1 January to 31 March.
A selection committee chaired by ADB’s Chief Economist will review applications in the second quarter of the year. This will be based on background, expertise, and research relevance. Only successful applicants will be notified by 31 July.

Following the selection committee’s decision, you may receive:
Non-entitlement: Your benefits exclude participation in ADB’s medical and dental retainer plans, staff retirement plan, salary, privileges, immunities, and other privileges for ADB staff.
Security: You will be liable for your own security and safety and are advised to register with your respective embassy in Manila. In case of evacuation from the country, you will follow the embassy’s contingency planning.
