A flashlight (torch in the British English version of Luigi's Mansion 2 and Nintendo Land ) appears in the Super Mario franchise as an item used to illuminate dark areas.

History[edit ]

Nintendo Adventure Books[edit ]

A flashlight appears in the Nintendo Adventure Book Flown the Koopa as an inventory item. If they have it, Mario and Luigi use it to explore the basement of Magikoopa's fortress, but the batteries die, leaving them vulnerable to a pack of Mega Moles.

Luigi's Mansion series[edit ]

A Flashlight appears in the Luigi's Mansion series as an object used by Luigi. In Luigi's Mansion , when Luigi first enters the mansion, he is armed with the flashlight only. When Luigi progresses in the game, however, he can use it to stun ghosts. The Flashlight in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is merged with the Poltergust 5000 and has two upgrades to find: the Strobulb and Dark-Light Device. The flashlight in Luigi's Mansion 3 serves a similar purpose as in the previous game, including its two upgrades. This flashlight has two unlockable aesthetic upgrades: Flashlight Type-B, unlocked by capturing all the Boos in the game, and Flashlight Type-P, unlocked by purchasing the game's Multiplayer Pack.

Super Mario series[edit ]

A flashlight appears in the minigame Hide and Boo Seek in Super Mario 64 DS and New Super Mario Bros. as an object to stun Boos with. This flashlight is controlled by using the stylus.

Mario Super Sluggers[edit ]

Luigi's flashlight appears in Mario Super Sluggers as an item. It can be bought at Blue Pianta's shop to unlock the Luigi's Mansion stadium.

Nintendo Land[edit ]

Flashlights appear in Nintendo Land as a component of the minigame Luigi's Ghost Mansion. Each of the four Mii players looking for the Gold Ghost Mii is armed with a flashlight, which is used to attack the ghost. It can be turned on and off; however, if players leave it on for too long, its batteries will run low until they run out altogether. New batteries that appear in the mansion can be collected to restore the flashlight's battery life.
