Rivet
- This article is about the blocks introduced in Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem! For the load-bearing rivets in Donkey Kong , see Bolt (object).
Rivets are a recurring type of solid, fixed block in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series. The player can connect two matching rivets to construct a pathway to guide the Minis. Doing so requires and consumes the corresponding building material in an amount proportional to the pathway's length. The player can also tap a rivet to remove all structures connected to it, reclaiming the materials used to build them.
Subtypes include Red Girder Rivets, Purple Conveyor Rivets, and Blue Ladder Rivets or Blue Lift Rivets, depending on the game. Purple Conveyors move along the direction that the player dragged between rivets. Blue rivets can only be joined exactly vertically.
Rivets first appear in Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem! as a main gameplay mechanic, originally replacing Pink Blocks, and reappear in all subsequent games except for Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move . Red Girder Rivets also appear in the logos of Mini-Land Mayhem! and Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge .
In Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars , rivets have differently shaped drives, to distinguish them without color. Red Girder Rivets remain diagonally slotted across; Purple Conveyor Rivets have a diagonal Philips drive; Blue Lift Conveyors have a vertical rectangular cavity, closer to a Robertson drive.
