SUL finalization

If you are requesting a merge of a global account with one or more unconnected local accounts as part of finalizing your single unified login (SUL) username, please specify which wikis and accounts you want to merge into your global account. These accounts were typically named "account name~wikiname". Please note that we can only merge a local account into a global account when the global account has no edits on the same wiki as the local account.

Making a request for your own account

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • please sign ~~~~ request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.

Private requests

Account renames are not private, once renamed many links from the old username to the new username will be permanently made. The reason submitted on the rename form (Special:GlobalRenameRequest) is private, and only visible by the renamers. Additional information that needs to be made in private may be sent using this direct wiki-email interface while logged-in.


Simple rename requests

If your rename request requires no stewardship, you have two options:

  1. Use the (new) request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
  2. Utilise the manual process outlined above, and submit it below in this section.

Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username@global if you wish to be globally renamed. Please use this tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.

Requests involving merges, usurps or other complications

Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username@global and requests should be signed by both the source (from) and target (to) user accounts.

Please note that the Global User Merge tool is not going to be available soon and that we will not accept any requests for now till further notice from developers. We are sorry for any inconvenience.
  • Update: Wikimedia Foundation staff have revealed that they believe the account merge tool will not be available soon, and there is no exact timeframe at the moment.

Hello Steinsplitter, the username deadrat is not active in English Wikipedia projects but zh.Wikipedia.org. Should I leave a message in the user's talk page there? Could you usurp "Plz" (without quotations)? From what I can see, the account has one deleted edit on nl.wiki. It appears to have been an inappropriate user page according to a note on the talk page and the deletion summary. Already notified. TaylorMoore2 (talk) 23:02, 9 December 2015 (UTC) [reply ]

Hi Aphex, other people across the world used the name Aphex just like you, only in different language versions of Wikipedia. Half a year ago all accounts became global. There is a Korean editor who also uses the name and has more edits then you. As such he got the global name and you were renamed.
