Proximity Searching Delivery Area

Posted by mastermindg on March 25, 2013 at 1:15pm

I'm developing a site that needs to utilize a delivery area component in address location. Typically a node would have a single geolocation, but for delivery a node would have a radius around a single point (so multiple points). Does anybody know what the best way to implement this would be so that a proximity search would give proper results based on multiple points?

Thanks!

Need help compiling list of websites/webapps that use maps to help you find stuff

Posted by bisonbleu on November 6, 2012 at 5:33pm

Hi,

I'm trying to compile a list of websites or webapps that use advanced and/or cutting edge map-based systems to help users search/find something.

What I'm interested in is the latest trends and/or design conventions; the ways and levels (the more the better) to which maps & interactivity are integrated in the UI/UX. What users are searching for doesn't really matter. Here are a few examples. Hotpads & Walkscore best exemplify what I'm talking about.

Best solution for project in D7 using Address Field, Geocoder API, Geofield, Geolocation (w. Maps), Search API (Not Solr), Search facets, Search ranges and Search views

Posted by tecjam on November 17, 2011 at 12:04pm

    Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some guidance in regards to a current project i'm working on:

    Details:

Display businesses for a certain city by using geo data, a proximity slider from a pre-defined center point (supplied by field in the entity, url or defined in the view) and predefined start radius (also defined in the view or by url) - closest distance to center point are displayed first - with distance to center point calculated.

    Best Geolocation option for D7?

    Posted by c-c-m on June 29, 2011 at 9:32am

    Hello,

I've been using Geolocation and drupal6 for quite some time (although I don't consider myself an expert at all), first using Location+GMAP, after (with better results) using OL+OL Geocoder. I was quite happy with the coice, since it covered my needs pretty well. But nows it comes Drupal7 and my problems start. Although there's a D7 version of OpenLayers, there isn't of other useful companion modules like openlayers geocoder or Openlayers CCK widget. And the worst is that not only there won't be any D7 version of those modules (see here) but it seems that "OpenLayers CCK has been popular but it's architecturally weak and CCK is not a very good API to build anything serious upon." according to tmcw's words here, who in turn announced that DevelpmentSeed will no longer continue working on drupal and thus, OpenLayers and all related modules. Not only that, he added that "The OpenLayers project seemed like the only option at the time, but it isn't, and it isn't the best option either. OpenLayers is a massive codebase that has gone far too long between rewrites (as in, it has never had one). It makes configuration an unnecessary nightmare, one that the module goes to lengths to patch together.". And that scared me. It scared me specially because I am not a developer and I have to rely on what experts say, which sometimes is contradictory.

Then I read that location module, which was somewhat forgotten seems to be working again and now what seemed to be a bad approach seems to be a better one (better than wkt fields?). Additionally new modules appeared, such as Gelocation which seems to promising but lacks quite a lot of features that OL CCK Widget had (whether its architecture is better or not I do not know). And it confused me. Even more.

    geolocation API puzzle

Posted by natehill on January 25, 2011 at 4:43am

Forgive me if I'm posting this problem in the wrong place, I'm new around here. Hoping someone in this group could help me with a geolocation API puzzle.

I've got a mobile project that uses the geolocation API to create some google maps/directions based on the user's location.
Everything works just fine as a simple HTML site, but I want to do this in Drupal so that I can get some commenting and interactivity with the users.

I'm currently playing around with Drupal 7 installed locally... using MAMP.

Lost in geo space: combining location and mapping modules to build a custom solution

Posted by weder on January 15, 2010 at 3:37pm

    Hi all,

I've been enabling and disabling geo, location, geocoding and mapping modules for the last couple of days, but have not been able to find a combination allowing me implementing this with Drupal 6:

    1. a user should be able to either enter a new location by searching with its name and/or address, OR
    2. by pinpointing it on a map.

Path 1. Searching by name and/or address
    - The search should start with a simple text field. The user enters a name of a place and maybe its address or parts of it.

GMap modules - CCk GMapAddress and route how to deal with other modules

Posted by derhasi on September 8, 2008 at 5:44pm

    Hello,

a while ago, i built the module CCK GMap Address: http://drupal.org/project/cck_gmapaddress. It is dependant on the GMap module. It provides a CCK Field to enter an address and display it in a GMap. Therefore GMap is used to get geodata (lon/lat) validate the address and display the GoogleMap. Data stored in the field are lon, lat, accuracy and the address string. Display of the GMap can be customized per field (e.g. for teaser, full, views display).
At the time I built the module, there wasn't any that satified my needs on such a CCK Field.

Seeking guidance on how to add users location in Drupal 6

Posted by pbuyle on July 28, 2008 at 6:56pm

    Hi,

I'm trying to use Drupal 6 as back-end for a map web application that show "ubuntu supporters" in Belgium (see http://map.ubuntu-be.org) and need guidance. The plan is to store user location and their commitments in Drupal. Then the existing JavaScript could be refactored to fetch the data from Drupal instead of the current had-hoc backend. After some research, it seems that the best solution to add (optional) information to user profile is to the Content Profile to create a "Profile node" for volunteering users. This node would have to provides a means to store user location.
