Keep - there are quite a few BBC Pidgin sources out there when I run my WP:BEFORE, as well as Vanguard News, DSTV, The Nation, Daily Post Nigeria, Tribune, etc - and a ton of them are quite a bit after and about different things, for example a controversial post he made about BBLs, his participation in some sort of arena game in 2025, comments he's made about his occupation being heir, and an assortment of other controversies. The general store and grain company are typical for what you'd find on the grounds of a simple rural railroad station. I'm not sure where the "recognized community" description is coming from. I mean informally recognized. And there's a 2010 news story saying they have a mayor and pay town taxes in 2010 to remain a town. I understand why you nominated the article for deletion, but i think its sufficiently notable. (ETA: also note the 1938 reference saying the population is 12.) Which notability guideline do you believe this meets? Van Petten doesn't appear in 2012 Illinois Counties and Incorporated Municipalities, and it's not clear what this "town tax" refers to. This really just looks like a single couple who was keeping the idea of a "town" alive for sentimental purposes. I have continued to improve the article and feel comfortable stating I am now an expert in the complete history of Van Petten, Illinois. As a self-appointed expert, you will unable to sway my !vote. Seriously though, i think there's a fair case for showing it was an informally recognized small community that started in 1901 and that had largely died by the late 1930s. "Significant coverage" addresses the topic directly and in detail, so that no original research is needed to extract the content. Significant coverage is more than a trivial mention, but it does not need to be the main topic of the source material.

Removing promotional material that is against the PaG is not an attempt to save it. Nor is putting a maintenance tag, such as a stub tag. As for the marking it as reviewed, part of WP:NPP is putting articles up for AfD as part of reviewing them. It's basically only stating that the article isn't pure vandalism or promotional. Further, removing promotional material does not at all address the main reason the article is at AfD: It lacks independent sources. To compare: both Friendship Medal (China) and State Natural Science Award (China) have multiple sources that are not from the government nor state-owned media. Nominator's rationale: the spirit of WP:SHAREDNAME, WP:NOTDICTIONARY, and WP:NONDEFINING

During 2020, a number of institutions revisited the racist meanings behind their long established names and finally updated them to be more representative. The old name is often in the intro with maybe a sentence on the rename but that doesn't seem defining as the actual topics have nothing in common creating a jumble of articles unlikely to aid navigation. This includes the Thick-billed longspur bird (née McCown's longspur), Hotel 24 South (Stonewall Jackson Hotel), America's Best Chew (Redman Chewing Tobacco), The Chicks (Dixie Chicks), Edy's Pie (Eskimo Pie), John R. Lewis High School (Robert E. Lee High School), and Wunaamin Miliwundi Ranges (King Leopold Mountains). This could still work if we had enough articles specifically on the name changes but we only have Cleveland Indians name and logo controversy and Washington Redskins name controversy while the third one, 2020 Rhode Island Question 1, doesn't mention Mr. Floyd. Greg Davies, Hannah Gadsby, and Space Cowboy are stars who have performed in many venues, including the the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. In practice, the comedy subcategory is also a performance category which is not remotely defining for Joan Rivers, John Hegley, or Imran Yusuf.
