Zécaré, or Zecaré, is a green and yellow alligator that acts as the official mascot of the Brazilian National Volleyball Teams and was created by the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV).[1] [2]

Descritption

[edit ]

Zécaré is depicted as a young, muscular alligator, a cheerleader, dressed only in the national team's uniform shirt and holding a volleyball. [2]

History

[edit ]

An aligator has been used as the Brazilian national volleyball team's mascot since 1990. [2]

At the 12th Men's Volleyball World Championship that year, the mascot was a chubby alligator named "Caiman," and in 2002 the character was redesigned, with the name "Zécaré" being chosen by fans online and, in 2009, the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation obtained the trademark registration for the name "Zécaré" from the INPI (National Institute of Industrial Property).[2]

Usage

[edit ]

Zécaré is widely used by the CBV to promote the Brazil men's national volleyball team and the Brazil women's national volleyball team and is seen as a cheerleader for those teams when they play at home, and during institutional events.[3] [2]
