Wikimedia project page for Main Page error reporting
Please submit error reports only for content that is currently or will imminently appear on the Main Page.
For general discussions regarding the Main Page, use its talk page.
For general discussions regarding the Main Page, use its talk page.
National variations of the English language have been widely discussed previously:
- Wikipedia does not favor any particular variety of English.
- While Wikipedia aims to use language common to all English varieties, some differences in spelling, grammar, or terminology may differ or be absent in a reader's preferred variety.
To report an error in content currently or imminently to appear on Main Page, use the appropriate section below. Reports should contain:
- Where is the error? An exact quotation using {{!xt }} of the text in question helps.
- Offer a correction if possible using {{xt }}.
- References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
- Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 12:52 on 6 January 2026) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
- Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
- Do not use {{edit fully-protected }} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
- No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
- Actual errors only. Failures of subjective criteria such as taste are not errors.
- Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
- Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Today's FA
[edit ]- The TFA blurb seems to be written in British English and needs to be adjusted to account for the way that American teams are pluralized:
The New England Revolution are an American soccer club [...] The club have taken part
. Sounder Bruce 09:05, 6 January 2026 (UTC) [reply ]- Done. UndercoverClassicist T·C 09:26, 6 January 2026 (UTC) [reply ]
- The blurb is based on the article text, which was written by an American... We now have a blurb and an article that don't match grammatically, which isn't ideal. - SchroCat (talk) 09:33, 6 January 2026 (UTC) [reply ]
- There's an FAQ to the Chicago Manual of Style (on which the Wikipedia MoS is generally based) which is a bit ambivalent: it suggests that most Americans would generally use the plural, even when the team name is singular, but then advises making an exception here. Similarly, this Cambridge blog is ambivalent about the issue but suggests that the singular can be used. Would be interested in more views from American editors but I'm tempted to revert to the singular for now. UndercoverClassicist T·C 09:46, 6 January 2026 (UTC) [reply ]
- Yes, please revert the change to the blurb and article. Much as I'd prefer to use plural, as a Brit, this is clearly an American topic and We should retain the American style of the original. — Amakuru (talk) 10:01, 6 January 2026 (UTC) [reply ]
- I think the issue here is establishing which one is the AmerE style, but for now I've reverted, since (pace SounderBruce above) I can't see that good American style guides are clearly in favo(u)r of the plural when the team name isn't a plural noun. UndercoverClassicist T·C 10:12, 6 January 2026 (UTC) [reply ]
- There is no doubt on American usage AFAIK, it should always be singular unless the team name itself is plural (e.g. The New England Patriots are...). Treating all teams as plural is a British thing, even Australian doesn't do that.
(削除) Sounder Bruce was arguing above that this blurb is actually in British English, I'm not sure why they thought that, but it wouldn't make sense anyway, as the article has clear ties to the U.S. (削除ここまで)Thanks for the revert. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 10:18, 6 January 2026 (UTC) [reply ]
