Hello! My name is Xanalysis. I want to write a good readable article. What matters most here in Wikipedia? --Xanalysis (talk) 07:19, 8 June 2026 (UTC) Reply
- @Xanalysis: Hi, there are a lot of factors that go into what makes a good article, such as being based on reliable references, no original research and being written in a clear and neutral tone. This is a good guide on how to get started with that:WP:YFA. I recommend that you start working with a draft in your sandbox. Shellwood (talk) 09:38, 8 June 2026 (UTC) Reply

Hello Shellwood, Thank you for serving as a mentor. I do have a question. I’m Dr. Ira Byock. I’m an old (literally) clinician, academic, and public advocate in the realm of hospice and palliative medicine. My biography has longstanding maintenance tags, and I believe it is missing substantial reliably sourced information about my work since approximately 2015. I have no desire for promotional content—only an accurate, well-sourced biography. Other than being a frequent user and modest donor to Wikipedia, I’m not expert or even sophisticated in Wikipedia processes or procedures.
Could you or someone familiar with biographies of physicians advise me on the most appropriate process for updating my bio page? Would the Medicine WikiProject be able to assist in this effort? --Ira Byock (talk) 21:12, 4 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
- @Ira Byock: Hi and welcome again. We strongly discourage people from editing in areas where they have a conflict of interest. In this case, as we are dealing with a biography of a living person, any unsourced content can be challenged and removed by anyone. If you spot any inaccuracies, I recommend that you use the talk page and make an edit request, explaining what you wish to change and what needs to be updated. Make sure that your claims are supported by reliable references. As for WikiProject Medicine, I am not active there, but it is the place to go if you wish to raise an alert about any issues with the article. Shellwood (talk) 10:34, 6 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive in August!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than a month of outstanding reviews from the current 3+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 August 2026 through 31 August 2026.
You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.
Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

- @JJDemblon: You will find it in your sandbox. I recommend that you go through the Articles for Creation process when ready. But are you using an AI to generate the text there? It's best to be open and honest about it now, as Wikipedia has guidelines against using that for content creation, see WP:LLM. If you try to publish it, it will be rejected. - This is what the wikipedia page says, so maybe I can go back and do more editing yet, however I cannot even find the page that has the yellow box????
- If you see a yellow box saying "Review waiting, please be patient" on your draft, you have successfully submitted it for review. If you don't see this box, you can ask for help at the Articles for Creation help desk.
- Getting a review can take a while, but your draft will be reviewed eventually. Attempting to bypass the process by moving the page, or cutting and pasting it into a new mainspace article, may lead to the page being moved back into draftspace again, JJDemblon (talk) 12:36, 5 August 2026 (UTC) Reply

- @JJDemblon: A grandparent and grandchild have a conflict of interest, as outlined in our guidelines. The reason why I encouraged you to do something else is because this kind of editing almost never results in anything. You are not the first person to ask me this question and drafts created by family members about other family members are overwhelming rejected, either because they do not meet the required notability criteria and/or because they have verifiability issues, such as a lack of reliable sources or being written in a promotional tone, just to mention some issues. I don't go by any nicknames here so you can just use my full username when referring to me. Shellwood (talk) 15:12, 5 August 2026 (UTC) Reply

He invented Appletiser and liqui fruit if you read the article you will see that it is now owned by Coca Cola and ceres fruit juices which we have absolutely no affiliation to so definitely not advertising there is no advertising here Appletiser is a world wide drink and very few know the origins it’s more about his philanthropic and charitable foundation which is his not ours but honestly I am not going back and forth. Can just make a web page rather . I just happened to use Wikipedia for information and have donated to Wikipedia in the past because I thought it was a very informative platform . Please stop creating underpopulated categories. I am going to treat your revert of my warning as you acknowledgment and understand my concern. SMasonGarrison 23:27, 5 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- @Smasongarrison: Ok let's go over this. There is no minimum requirement, see WP:SMALLCAT. The categories I create come from WantedCategories patrol and those I have created has the potential to grow, I always take that into consideration. The majority of the ones on that list are just junk, but a few are legitimate and they are not eponymous. And per WP:REDNOT, categories should either be created or removed. If they will almost certainly become populated later, such as a 2027 in country X, they should be created and especially if we are dealing with template-generated red links. These categories also serve as a way to navigate through different categories and help users find articles in the same topic. But that is not to say that all underpopulated categories are unproblematic. You simply have to accept to agree to disagree with people sometimes. And don't run around templating regulars. Some people don't mind it, while others may react very differently. I never do it myself. If you have concerns, take the time to write a proper message instead. Shellwood (talk) 09:59, 6 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- Smallcat is no longer policy. The consensus at cfd has been that categories should have multiple pages in them. Template generated redlinks indicate that a template needs to be fixed. I am sorry that you are offended by the use of a template. I will try to keep that in mind in the future. SMasonGarrison 11:58, 6 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
Hello Shellwood. Thank you for offering to help. I am the subject of an English Wikipedia biography and recently discovered that it contains a number of materially inaccurate statements about my personal biography, including information that I know to be factually incorrect.
Because I am the subject of the article, I understand that I should not simply edit disputed biographical information myself. I have therefore raised the inaccuracies through the appropriate editing process and provided supporting information where available.
Could you please advise me on the best way to have these biographical inaccuracies reviewed and corrected, particularly where incorrect personal information has remained in the article for some time?
Thank you for your guidance. --Labrish (talk) 12:41, 6 August 2026 (UTC) Reply

If you spot any inaccuracies, I recommend that you use the talk page and make an edit request, this should also be used if you wish to change any pictures in the article. The biography is still displaying the old photograph. Because I am the subject of the article, I do not want to make the change myself without guidance. Could you please advise me on the appropriate way to request that the newly approved photograph replace the existing one?

Hi Shellwood, I had a (hopefully) quick question for you. If there are WP pages in other languages that I feel should also have English-language pages, how do I create such pages? On the different-language page, I see options to 'Translate this Entry', 'Editing interlingual links', and 'Open language settings'. Do I need to use any or all of those? Is there something else that needs to be done? I'm happy to do the work, I just don't want the new page to be deleted on a technicality. Thanks! --ProudNewEnglander (talk) 14:28, 8 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- @ProudNewEnglander: Hi, and sorry for the late reply. I have never used the "Translate this Entry" feature, but you can use it along with the others if available. But don't use any LLMs to write an article from scratch. You can put the translation in your sandbox to work on it in peace before publishing it. Your article won't get deleted just because you didn't add any interlingual links. I have reviewed many articles without them and added them myself when doing New Pages Patrol. I don't know which language you are thinking about, but here is a list of NPP reviewers who are proficient in other languages, WP:NPPFL. Someone there might be able to help. I've read the conflict-of-interest guideline, put a disclosure on my user page, and I don't intend to ever edit the article directly. My plan is to post edit requests on the article's talk page using the {{request edit }} template, including a BLP privacy request about the "Personal life" section, which mentions my family, and some sourcing updates with independent references. Before I post: is that the right process, and is there anything you'd suggest I do differently as a newcomer? Thanks so much! --JuliaStoyanovich (talk) 12:36, 10 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- I'm definitely not Shellwood, but for your information the template you're looking for is {{edit COI }}, not {{request edit }}. Alpha Beta Delta Lambda (talk) 13:51, 10 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- Thank you, noted — I'll use {{edit COI }} JuliaStoyanovich (talk) 15:50, 10 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
This is my 2nd Wikipedia account. Is there any way to add the two articles I wrote under my previous account to this new account? --Lizkentleon (talk) 15:40, 11 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- @Lizkentleon: Unfortunately, this is not possible, but you can always create a user page where you explain that this is your second account and list all the articles you created under it. Shellwood (talk) 09:47, 12 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
