Disability Studies in Nordic Countries
Nordic Network on Disability Research (NNDR) was established in 1997 among the Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian, and Swedish societies of disability studies. The purpose of NNDR is to advance research and development in the field of disability. NNDR provides a forum for researchers, particularly from the Nordic countries but also beyond, to meet, present and discuss their research, as well as encouraging Nordic and international exchange and collaboration. It currently hosts the world largest biennial disability studies conferences. NNDR has 1510 members from all over the world. NNDR’s working language is English. • In 2023, Iceland conference was attended by 733 persons from 41 countries. • In 2025, Helsinki conference was attended by 710 persons from 40 countries. • The next 2027 conference will be held in Trondheim, Norway, between 12-14 May with the theme of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. (Please see more at https://nndr.org) NNDR has administrated the fully Open Access Scandinavian Journal of Disability Research since 1998. In 2024, 46 articles were published, and 23,552 times PDF articles were downloaded. There is a waiver scheme for those scholars who cannot pay the fees so that the local and global inequalities are paid careful attention to. The countries are from different continents, which shows the internationalisatio of this journal. There is strong potential for increased collaboration between the Asian and Nordic regions—for example, on topics such as the history of eugenic laws, welfare state reform, and ageing societies. This poster presentation aims to encourage further dialogue between these two regions.勝井久代 hisayo.katsui@helsinki.fi Professor of Disability Studies, University of Helsinki, Finland President of the Nordic Network on Disability Research (NNDR) Caption: QR codes for NNDR , SJDR and Hisayo Katsui • https://nndr.org/ • https://sjdr.se/ • https://researchportal.helsinki.fi/en/persons/hisayo-katsui
