Getting Ready for the COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout
This brief discusses the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine procurement and distribution in Asia and the Pacific along with challenges and policy implications toward delivering safe, effective, and affordable vaccines to all.
Around 80 countries started rolling out vaccines as of 15 February 2021, yet vaccination has been slower than expected. The rate of vaccine administration in North America, the leading region, is about 15 doses per 100 people. In Asia and the Pacific, less than 2 doses are administered per 100 people. The brief presents data on the status of COVID-19 vaccine development and provides recommendations for addressing challenges in distribution and logistics, including vaccine storage and cold chain management.
