This report analyzes the barriers women entrepreneurs face in Pacific island countries (PICs) and shows how weaving gender-sensitivity into tax design and providing tailored support can boost formalization and underpin sustainable economic growth.
Nauru, an island country of 21 square kilometers, is resource-constrained, far from major markets, import-dependent, and challenged with limited sources for economic growth and revenue diversification. The Government of Nauru relies on revenue from Australia’s regional processing center for asylum seekers, fluctuating fishing license fees, and overseas development assistance. To expand sources of revenue, the government is mining secondary phosphate, expanding air services, and building capacity for its workers to pursue employment in the region.
To date, ADB has committed 27 public sector loans, grants, and technical assistance totaling 157ドル million to Nauru.
Forecasts are based on ADB's flagship publication, the Asian Development Outlook. Updated four times a year, it analyzes economic and development issues in developing countries in Asia and the Pacific.
Development indicators for Nauru, including a selection of economic, environmental, and social indicators used globally to track progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.
Results achieved are aggregate amounts of outputs and outcomes from operations reported in project completion reports and extended annual review reports circulated for the year.
Cofinancing operations enable ADB’s financing partners, governments or their agencies, multilateral financing institutions, and commercial organizations to participate in financing ADB projects.
The unique challenges of financing and building a climate-resilient port in a tiny Pacific country required ADB to develop and deploy innovative approaches to ensure the project’s design, governance, and monitoring were efficient and effective.
