This document outlines the Glaciers to Farms (G2F) regional program’s approach to addressing environmental, social, and sustainability issues. It establishes applicable standards and defines compliance benchmarks for managing environmental and social risks related to G2F-financed investments. This updated version of the document integrates comprehensive feedback provided by internal and external ADB reviewers.

The Glaciers to Farms (G2F) program is a regionally integrated, multi-sectoral climate adaptation program aimed at safeguarding the lives, livelihoods, and ecosystems of over 370 million people across Central and West Asia. Anchored by ADB and aligned with GCF priorities, G2F promotes inclusive, climate-resilient solutions across glacier-fed landscapes in the region.

To support this effort, an Environment and Social Management Framework (ESMF) has been developed to define the standards, processes, and tools governing the program’s environmental and social management approach. The ESMF provides guidance for the screening, assessment, and mitigation of risks, in line with ADB’s Safeguard Policy Statement (2009), the forthcoming Environmental and Social Framework (2026), and GCF’s revised environmental and social policies. The document serves as a critical reference for ensuring safeguard compliance throughout project preparation and implementation.
