説明: SCP-5162は、不自然なほど澄んだ水と花崗岩の盆地から成る小規模な火口湖、"フォレスタルズ・ラグーン"です。狭く浅い入り江でヒューロン湖と繋がっていますが、所在地はまだ特定されていません。ヒューロン湖の空撮調査でも発見されておらず、陸路や水路での接近は、SCP-5162の場所や異常性を知らない人物のみが可能であるようです。
SCP-5162-Aは、SCP-5162の底に沈んでいるジャコビアン時代の大型帆船 "重圧号"Weight です。船体は直立しており、マストと艤装は完全に無傷ですが、帆がありません。.船名は船尾にはっきりと見ることができます。 水の透明度が高いため、船とそれを支える盆地は常に岸辺から完全に見えています。水域に魚類や植物が生息しているとの報告はありません。

補遺 5162-1、発見: 2005年、サイト-43の記録保存・改定セクション (A&R) は、過去にそれと知らず未収容の異常オブジェクトと遭遇した職員を特定するための財団全体調査プロジェクトを発足しました。A&R議長 ハロルド・ブランク博士もそのような職員の1人でした。超心理学の専門家であるニュン・ゴ博士とのインタビューで、彼は登録されていないアノマリーの詳細な説明を提供し、この証言は間もなくサイト-43に所属する他のインタビュー回答者たちから裏付けられました。
ゴ博士: その船について教えてください。
ブランク博士: まだ子供の頃、両親が小さなヨットを持っていた。夏休みになると、私たちはヒューロン湖のジョージア湾に繰り出して、色んな島や浜辺に停泊し、入り江やラグーンを探検して回った。
...記憶があるんだ。入り江を抜けて、浜辺と森に囲まれた小さな火口湖に入った。沿岸に錨を下ろして、記憶の中の私はそこに立っている。浜辺から、湖を見下ろしている。浅いんだが、浅いように感じない。水がかなり澄んでいて、花崗岩の盆地の粒1つまで見通せるからだ。そのせいで果てしなく深く、現実味が無いほど大きく見える。マットペイントのような感じだ。誰かがカナダ楯状地を100フィートばかり掬い取って、その跡を... 実際の水の代わりに、水の概念で満たしたようにね。
その盆地の底に、人生のように巨大な、人生よりも巨大な船が沈んでいる。途方もない大きさなんだ。水がとても澄んでいて綺麗だから、細部まで、隅々まで余さず見える。水草は無い。魚はいたかもしれないが、よく覚えていない。でも専らそこにあるのは、滑らかな石の盆地と、例のあり得ない船だけだ。
記憶の中の私は、それを見つめるのを止められない。船はまるで息を止めて、何かが起きるのを待っているように見える。そして何も起こらない。ふと、私は自分も息を止めているのに気付き... それを止められない。息をつくことができない。
水に浮かぶ私たちのヨットの下に、あの船があるのを思い描くことができる。まるで... 船が湖底を横切って私を追いかけ、小さなヨットがその航跡に巻き込まれようとしているか、さもなければ何も無い空間のように澄んだ水の中を落ちていこうとしているようだ。
湖で泳ぎ、あの船を見下ろしていたのを覚えている... 覚えていると思う。理に適う表現かどうか怪しいが、船は下方から覆い被さってくる。
今まで誰にもこの話をしなかった理由が分かるね。
ゴ博士: それは過誤記憶だと思いませんか?
ブランク博士: そのはずなんだ。もし実在する場所だったら、今頃他の人々も発見している。両親だってその話をしただろう。若い頃の私は、あり得ない記憶だと一蹴した。当時はあり得ない物が... あり得るとは知らなかったからね。だが、今となっては確信が持てない。
ゴ博士: 何故ですか?
ブランク博士: 20年以上も経つのに、今でも鮮明に思い描けるんだよ。あれがすぐ目の前に存在して、私が何かを行うのを求めているように。あの船はいつもそこにあるんだ。
A&Rは、重圧号が既存の船なのか、純粋に異常な出現物なのかを断定するために、ジャコビアン時代の海運記録を調査しました。政治家、海運王、東インド貿易会社の取締役であったエドモンド・フォレスタル卿が1622年に引退する際、イギリスのリヴァプールで同名の船を建造、登録していたことが判明しました。重圧号に関するそれ以上の記録は回収されていません。引退当時、フォレスタル卿はその職業と、薔薇十字団に所属する高名なオカルティストたちとの頻繁な交際の双方に関連する複数のスキャンダルに巻き込まれていました。SCP-5162が北米大陸を訪れたことのないフォレスタル卿の名前を冠している理由は不明です — "フォレスタルズ・ラグーン"という名称は、遭遇した人物らが個別に、特に何の理由もなく思い付いたものです。
補遺 5162-2、インタビューの抜粋: 1986年以来、A&RはSCP-5162に遭遇した人物を17名特定しています。記憶処理に先立ち、ゴ博士は各個人に聞き取り調査を行いました。選択されたインタビューの書き起こしは以下の通りです。
5162-S02: 気になって仕方がない。どうやってあれがただあそこに鎮座しているのか。独りでに、沢山の岩の上に、沢山の水の下に。
ゴ博士: 何故それに興味を覚えるのですか?
5162-S02: 何だか... すごく手に負えない感じなんだ、分かるかな? 岩は多すぎるし、船もあんまり大きすぎる。巨大な船なんだ。あんなに巨大な人工物がただ湖底に眠っているんだよ。高層オフィスビルが横倒しで沈んだようなもんだ。あれが、こう、沈没する時はどんな風に見えたんだろう? 船に向かって押し寄せる水が見えるようだ。音まで聞こえてきそうだ。
ゴ博士: あなたはその現場にいなかったでしょう。
5162-S02: 勿論だ。あの船はもう何百年もあそこに沈んでいた。何百年もの間、変わっていない。僕の人生の全ての瞬間、あれはあそこに沈んでいた。常に沈んでいた... 畜生、今だって沈んでいる。僕があれを見ていない時でさえも。誰もあれを見ていない時でさえも。
ゴ博士: 何故それが気になるのですか?
5162-S02: 分からないよ。何故あなたはそれが気にならないんだ?
5162-S03: あれは全く... 始末に困るよ。
ゴ博士: どういう意味でしょう?
5162-S03: 始末に負えない。あのクソ忌々しい船体丸ごと、隅々まで見える... 当然だが一気にじゃない、一気に見るにはデカすぎる。だから余計に困る。下に降りて触ることもできない、これもまた困ったところだ。俺は岸に立って水中を覗き込むしかない。あの途方もなく透明な水... 自分は崖っぷちに立ってて、船は崖下にあるのに、それでも目の前にせり上がってくるような、そんな感じがするんだ。水深100フィートに沈んでようが関係ない。嗚呼、もし何かが湖底で起きたって... どうすることもできない。
ゴ博士: 何が起きると言うのでしょうか?
5162-S03: もし船が傾き始めたら? もし船が倒れ始めて、それを見なければいけなかったら? もし自分が見ていなくて、船が倒れて、湖底で軋んで、誰もそれを見る奴がいなかったら? それか... 分からん。もし何かが出てきたら、それか何かが入っていったら。見届けるんだ。見届けなきゃならないんだ。
ゴ博士: 何故ですか?
5162-S03: 見ることができるからさ。
5162-S07: タイタニック号は海底2マイルにあるらしいわ。それを見るためだけに特殊な潜水艦に乗らないといけない。タイタニック号が冷たい闇の中で朽ちていく、それは別に構わないのよ、見えないんだから。だけどこいつは、馬鹿にしてるじゃない、すぐ目の前にある。もしその場を離れた後で、誰か別な人が来たらどうするの? どうやってその人たちにあれを説明すればいいの?
ゴ博士: 説明しなくていいんですよ。あなたは立ち去っていますからね。
5162-S07: そんな風に生きられると思う? 誰かがあれを見るかもしれない、あれが人目を惹くかもしれない、世間に知れ渡るかもしれない、誰もがそれを見つけたのを自分が知ることさえないかもしれないと分かっているのに? もう気が狂いそう。
5162-S08: 手放せないんです。あんまり... あんまり大きすぎて、私には手放すなんて無理です。あの質量。全体性。あれだけ沢山の水を動かして、ただ... 圧し掛かってくるんです。
ゴ博士: 圧し掛かってくることはあり得ません。その船はラグーンの底に沈んでいます。
5162-S08: 私のパニック発作にそう伝えてください。
5162-S14: 息をつくこともできなかった。私は... 責任を負いきれなかった。
ゴ博士: 何の責任ですか?
5162-S14: 船に対する責任だ。あの沢山の板と釘に対する責任。その間の暗い空間、浸水した甲板と船倉に対する責任。空っぽではない空っぽの広い空間に対する責任。あの物凄い...
ゴ博士: 重圧。
5162-S14: そうだ。あの物凄い重圧。

ゴ博士: その夢について教えてください。
ブランク博士: 私は平坦で空虚な空間に立っている。細かいところまでは見えない。巨大な... 恐らく立方体だと思うんだが、それしか見えない。巨大な黒い立方体だ、見るには大きすぎる、考えるにも大きすぎる。余りにも巨大だから、その存在を想像するだけで思わず息を呑む。
ゴ博士: その立方体は何をしていますか?
ブランク博士: 何もしていない。いや... 今のは正確じゃないな。立方体は私に圧を掛けている。私がそれを持ち上げているからだ。
ゴ博士: 持ち上げている? 先ほど、計り知れないほど巨大だと言いましたよね。
ブランク博士: そうだよ。私はそいつを角で支えていて、重みは全てその一点に、私の身に集中している。私はこの成り行きを自分自身の視点からは見ていない。自分の身体の背後に浮かんで、そのとてつもない重圧に耐えているのを見守っているような感じだ。もし握力を緩めようものなら、そいつは落ちてくるだろうし、私はそれを止められないだろう。押し潰されるだろう。ピクリとも身動きできない。そして、私はそいつを永遠に持ち続けていられないのを知っているのに、永遠に持ち続けなければいけないのも知っているんだ。落としてはいけない。下に置いてもいけない。
ゴ博士: 何故ですか?
ブランク博士: 分からない... 面倒な事になるから? もし落ち始めたら、永遠に落ち続けるだろうから。私こそが急所であり、支点であり、他にはそいつを安定させられる物が無いから。私がそいつを下ろせば、その凄まじい重みで地球が壊れてしまうだろうから。大きすぎて持ち上げざるを得ないから。そいつは全てだから。
ゴ博士: ならば、何故それはあなたを壊さないのですか?
沈黙だけが録音されている。
ブランク博士: そいつは私の物だからだよ。
ゴ博士: その夢はあなたの職務の妨げになっていますか?
ブランク博士は微笑み、回答しない。
SCP-5162-Aに曝露した全ての人物は、同様のテーマ性を有する夢を見ると報告しています。この現象には経時的に衰える様子が見られません。
補遺 5162-4、来歴: 以下の日付不明の日記は、フォレスタル卿がSCP-5162-Aの作成に唯一言及した記録だと考えられます。
