█████ Refinery, taken in 20██.
Item#: SCP-ZH-351
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: The Foundation Information Department is to intercept all reports regarding the appearance of corpses in the █████ Refinery. Every recovered SCP-ZH-351 is to be transferred to Site-ZH-12 to undergo antimemetic effect decomposition procedures, and the ashes should be returned to the families of the deceased once the corpses have been identified.
Description: SCP-ZH-351 is a series of anomalous corpses exhibiting antimemetic properties that appeared within the █████ Refinery complex in ████ District, ██████ City. While it is possible to identify their causes of death and test their DNA, personnel without prior antimemetic-response training are unable to determine the true identities of SCP-ZH-351 due to its anomalous effects, and loss of memory regarding information related to SCP-ZH-351 will accelerate after the cremation of the corpses. A certain group of individuals are completely incapable of perceiving SCP-ZH-351; the commonalities among these subjects are still under analysis.
According to existing autopsy reports, the causes of death for SCP-ZH-351 are usually the following:
- A variety of respiratory diseases and related complications
- Cancers and related complications
- Severe full-body burns
- Major trauma, presumably resulting from an explosion
In 19██, local residents near the █████ Refinery voluntarily formed a protest group against the oil Refinery’s insufficient management regarding the appearance of unidentified corpses. After intervening, the Foundation discovered that the heads of the oil refinery and relevant government officials were incapable of perceiving SCP-ZH-351. Thus, after confirming the existence of the anomaly, Class-A Amnestics were administered in surrounding areas, and a cover story involving "environmental pollution" was released. Local residents had continued to protest against the head of the refinery despite being amnestized, which led to █████ Refinery's termination of operation in 20██, after which the anomalous effects of SCP-ZH-351 began to gradually subside. In subsequent investigations regarding SCP-ZH-351, the Foundation has found that the characteristics of several corpses matches those of missing individuals in local regions. Responsibility for anomaly removal was therefore given to Site-ZH-12, which specializes in antimemetic research.
A reevaluation of SCP-ZH-351's object class is currently underway.
Addendum: Interview of a protest group member
[Record begins, the interview, originally in the Taiwanese language, has been translated into Standard Chinese]
Dr. ███: I would like to ask, how did you find out that there are bodies in the factory?
███: My █████ works in the refinery, they were the one who told me. At first, their colleagues were all teasing them, saying that they had inhaled too much toxic gas. But when they went down to check, it turned out that there actually were bodies.
Dr. ███: Did they report to the supervisors?
███: Of course they did, someone died, why wouldn’t they? But the higher-ups said they didn't see any bodies. In the end, they just got annoyed, told them to hurry and get rid of the bodies if we really did see one, no one knew what happened to those bodies afterwards.
Dr. ███: Sounds pretty severe.
███: Yeah, it is severe. But nobody knew who the body belonged to, and everyone started to slowly forget that this body thing ever happened. My █████ is scared, because they still remember, and still occasionally see bodies.
███: One day they came home and told me, ███, is pretending not to see really the only thing we can do? Is it me who’s the problem?
███: I didn’t know what to tell them.
(███ coughs for a few seconds.)
███: And that leads me to what I'm doing now. Even if many people don't remember the corpses, it doesn't mean that absolutely no one remembers, so I investigated everywhere to see if there was information about the missing cases, gathered a bunch of people who also remembered, and began to protest against the refinery.███: That’s pretty much it. Any other questions?
Dr. ███: Oh yes, I have a quick question, it’s unrelated to this interview, but our team was curious about it.
███: Do ask.Dr. ███: If people always forget about those bodies and aren't bothered by them, why insist in protesting?
███: Not remembering who the bodies are isn't a reason for inaction.
███: I don't want to live in a world that turns a blind eye to corpses, that's all.
