cave

The cave that leads into SCP-173-VN.

Special Containment Procedures: Due to the nature of the anomaly’s location, direct containment is unnecessary. All current efforts involved the construction and surveillance of a series of protective belts under the guise of ranger stations, with the purposes of preventing, capturing, and amnesticizing any intruder into the area. The procedure to erase memory en masse is unnecessary as the connection between SCP-173-VN and Vietnamese legends/tales has been widely accepted by the community and is considered normal.

Protocol to contain and weaken the anomaly’s thaumaturgy should continue to be developed by the Department of Mythology from Site-21-VN and should be applied upon success.

Description: SCP-173-VN is the designation for the ruin of an abandoned ancient city, located deep inside the Trường Sơn mountain range in the Central Highlands. Approximately 1000 km large, it was built along the natural terrain, with the only entrance placed in a forest near the Pleiku province and was stretched into the Kontum region. Although the anomaly is believed to have existed since prehistoric times, farming techniques and artifacts found from here suggest it was a lot more advanced compared to other primordial societies, some artifacts were stated to be extremely difficult to manufacture, even with modern technology. SCP-173-VN also possesses extremely high levels of thaumaturgy, with different levels from different objects, buildings, or anomalous artifacts all indicating its once-past influence of interest.

gate

The South Gate of the Citadel of the Hồ Dynasty, a building with partial similarities to SCP-173-VN’s past entrance.

Entrance to the site is an ancient stronghold built of stone, square in shape, with the front side carved a door-looking hole, making its appearance similar to the present relic of the Citadel of the Hồ Dynasty. Deep inside the stronghold lies a tunnel that leads directly to SCP-173-VN.

The structure of SCP-173-VN reveals evidence of the division between social classes there with two civil inhabitant areas, temporarily known as the inner town and the outer wall, in addition to a palace at the innermost area, supposedly used to house either the nobles or the leaders of the city.

  • The outer wall: The closest area to the entrance, occupying most of SCP-173-VN, houses here were often made out of bamboo or wood, and sometimes living spaces were created by gouging into the cliffs. The outer wall was also the main agricultural and food production site of SCP-173-VN as many small fields were found along the paths with stone and bronze tools. The place also played a role in animal husbandry as water reservoirs and farms were found here. Multiple traces were also found engraved on cliffs, describing the culture of the place's former inhabitants whose religion seems to worship the stars, the moon, the rain, the lightnings, along with depictions of an unknown war against a species of flying reptiles. A few rare engraved stones show the appearance of SCP-173-VN’s inhabitants, depicting them as having a pair of wings, two small ears, and a body that is usually smaller in size compared to modern humans (Homo sapiens). However, some depictions show them as having various parts from many different animals.
unknown

An unidentified botanical species exist inside SCP-173-VN.

  • The inner town: Located from the inside of the city, this area was separated from its outer counterpart by a huge wall of white limestones. Compared to the outer wall, the architectural structures here were more modernized, having a similar style to feudal Vietnamese architecture, with roofs sloping down before turning upwards in the corners, lifted by wooden slats, the buildings are often supported by a round pillar that inflated in the center. The inner town seemed to focus on industrialization as there were many modernized machinery, partially made out of precious types of quartz with special abilities, serving both daily needs and military demands. Ancient stone pedestals used in unidentified rituals were also found, which demonstrate the development of advanced thaumatology of the inhabitants here.

Deep inside the inner town is a palace built from a combination of many structures, these structures were placed on a symmetrical shape of two vertical or horizontal lines, having corridors connecting them together. The palace was divided into three parts:

  • The front side was built of thick stones with doors leading to the inside area of the palace, above are watchtowers that were built equidistantly from each other. Deeper inside lies a massive courtyard called the front sector with four smaller yards arranged along the corridor that leads to the central sector, around those yards are huge buildings whose purpose was predicted to be used either as storage places or as dormitories.
  • The central of the palace, also called the central sector, is an enormous area surrounding a century-old tree that has reached up above the ground with a diameter of about 50m and a total height of approximately ~2000m, the tree’s leaves were responsible for receiving sunlight, the main source of energy for many activities of the inhabitants in SCP-173-VN. There are two main corridors lifted above the ground by pillars, which lie on the two sides of the century-old tree and were made from a type of stone that could conduct energy, forming an energy transmission network and acting as a gateway to the main sector. The central sector is also where many diverse plant species were found living with a system of rockeries scattered around.
  • The main palace, located in the innermost sector, was the main living area for the aristocracy with many mansions built around it. The largest one was placed in the middle of the main sector and was higher than all surrounding buildings of about 6 to 7 floors, on its top floor lies an anomalous artifact resembling a rock that could absorb sunlight and reflect down as an artificial sun, this reflected sunlight was able to reach every corner of SCP-173-VN and created a day-night cycle from within the city. However, the artifact has lost its ability due to physical impacts from unknown forces and erosion over time.

Discovery: SCP-173-VN was first discovered in 2018 during a mineral exploitation project by the local Vietnamese. After more than 20 days of work, the mining drill reached down to the inner town area of SCP-173-VN and they began to collect artifacts, survey the surrounding area, and prepare some documents for the government so their discovery could be declared to the public. The Foundation managed to intervene in time and amnesticize related witnesses, they then retrieved artifacts and cooperated with the government of Vietnam to issue laws prohibiting mineral exploitation or archeological attempt in the Trường Sơn mountain range. Archaeological data obtained by the previous team have been archived for research purposes, below is an excerpt from the journal of project leader Nguyễn Văn Đức.

"As our drill reached a depth at around 700-800 meters, the entire region began to collapse into an unknown area. When we leaned down to have a better look of the hole, an ancient and majestic ruin, quietly lying there like historical mausoleums, appeared in our sight. We then mobilized a helicopter to approach the site before reporting to the authorities. As soon as we stepped our foot down on the wet ground below, we were stunned by the vastness of the area, which seemed to keep on going forever. The looming sunlight coming through the borehole from the sky became the only source of light for us to navigate our way.

With torches in hand, the team entered a place that had been long lost to history, a citadel that was as ancient and magnificent as the tombs of the Nguyễn and maybe the Trần emperors. Sadly, it is now just a shadow of an advanced civilization, buried in time.

Entrance to the citadel was pitch black and torches only were not enough, many in the team gave up and requested we return to the camp for better preparation. But as the thrust for adventures from my youth arose, darkness was simply not enough to stop my steps. I discovered that the architecture here, though very primordial, possessed such an incredibly advanced technology. It is not an exaggeration to say that the inhabitants once lived there had transformed the entire citadel into a giant image projector with pillars and floors engraved with depictions of lives, of wars, and even of the decline and fall of this ancient empire to show to the later generations. Of course, if all it had were these, then nothing would be noteworthy. The interesting part is that, when a member of our group accidentally fell and hit his face, a blood drop from his nose accidentally came into contact with the depictions, then out of the air appeared an image of a creature with the body of a human but had some mythical traits. This creature was both beautiful and magnificent with graceful wings adorning its back like fairies in tales, a creature whose beauty seemed to be so terrifying that everyone in our team immediately retreated, only I tried to stay a bit longer and communicate with it using body language, but… I wasn’t sure whether I should be happy or sad when the creature didn’t exactly appear there or anywhere from my understanding, it was just a projection from the era it once lived…"

Addendum 173-VN.1: List of retrieved artifacts

Below is the entire list of notable artifacts and objects of interest that the Foundation recovered after the discovery of the anomaly when they conducted an exploration excavation. It should be noted that some of these artifacts are either not completely intact or have been damaged over time.

No. Area of discovery Description Note
003 Outer wall A set of fifty-two (52) ingeniously designed puppets that were made out of many types of trees, surrounding gravels, iron, titanium, uranium, carbon fibers, and 3 other unknown materials. Each could move around the area on its own, does not show hostility, and would create large sounds upon detecting living creatures within operating distance. They still retain their original state and were theorized to be used as scarecrows for agricultural cultivation on the outside of the city. These puppets' appearance is unlike any ancient Yue figure known in official records, particularly due to a pair of wings on their back.
012 Outer wall A set of approximately forty-three (43) objects that resemble modern kites, flying in circles above the anomaly at the height of 250m. They could not be approached due to a thaumaturgical shield wrapping around them, possibly being used as surveillance cameras. The specific structure or material used is currently unknown. N/A.
026 Inner town Sixteen (16) clothes recovered from a ruined house with different sizes and styles. They were likely worn by members of the family. Most were woven from silk, some from plants and fibers. Despite using regular materials, the objects remain in perfect condition.
045 Inner town A set of approximately one hundred and thirty-two (132) machines have been heavily damaged, located inside what seems to be a factory on the North side of the city. Through a survey in the area, these machines seem to have been used for weaving, silking, and [REDACTED] Aside from being heavily damaged, all of the machines found had a design that meets modern machinery standards.
050 The palace A set of thirty (30) anomalous objects that have similar features to SCP-5580-1. Scattered under and on the century-old tree at the center of the palace. Supposedly used to diffuse energy or "sunlight" to the surrounding environment. N/A.
073 The palace A collection of eighty (80) anomalous weapons with high levels of thaumaturgy, located inside a room in the main palace. They have been brought back to the storage of Site-21-VN. Aside from having high levels of thaumaturgy, these mentioned weapons have standard appearances of swords, sabers, bows, and shields.
121 The main palace A set of sixty-three (63) ancient indestructible stone tablets, located inside a library-liked room, engraved with many hieroglyphics and a type of writing that has BEITHOS-HARTMAN antimeme. The language being used does not match with any system of language that existed in Vietnam or any other part of the world. At the time of this writing, three (3) stone tablets have successfully been moved to Site-21-VN. The relocation process will continue to undergo in the future. See Addendum 173-VN.2 for more information regarding the texts of these stone tablets.

Addendum 173-VN.2: Texts from the retrieved artifacts

For further research purposes concerning the formation process and development history of SCP-173-VN, Site-21-VN’s Department Of Mythology has been tasked to further analyze the writing on recovered stone tablets. Despite having used multiple research methods and advanced analysis technology devices, the Department failed to achieve convincing results. That was until Junior Researcher Trần Gia Hưng suggested the usage of blood from a D Class personnel as mentioned in Nguyễn Văn Đức’s journal. The suggestion was approved by the Director of Site-21-VN and an experiment was allowed to undergo. The experiment was a success, the result, however, was different. Instead of showing an "illusion" or a "soul" like in the journal, all 3 recovered artifacts presented a series of different ancient texts. Below are these texts:

[…] When the light touched the ground, when the stars brightened up the night sky. When all the quintessence and the glorious moments of a powerful clan began to fade away in the glow of sunset, only memories remained when being read aloud. A story, an image in a mythic history, awaiting the worthy ones to find it…

Long ago, the world saw a beautiful love tale arise between two immortals, or more accurately— two individuals with miraculous power. One inherited the blood of a powerful Sea Dragon race with a righteous heart, always ready to hunt down any devil and end any cruelty he saw. The other carried the shadow of a Magical Fairy race with endless compassion for all living kinds. In a coincident meeting, the two formed bonds despite the differences of their races.

And then, in a region far far away, among the mountainous forests of the South, a prosperous kingdom was formed by a Father and a Mother. Day by day, their children lived in happiness and coziness, full of fragrant flowers and sweet fruits with thousands of landscapes around. The kingdom started to grow larger over time, their reputation was heard by even the wanderers from the unknown, and many kings from other states were jealous and envious, wanting to overthrow the Parents' kingdom.

The Father had always been living happily with his children and queen, but the Father's heart still could not forget his home ocean palace. And then one day, when the predecessor dragon lord left for the eternal void, he was forced to leave his kingdom and happiness behind, and turned into a dragon, flying up high into the sky and heading toward the sea far far away so as to govern the ocean world[…]

[…] From then on, tragedies began to emerge in the kingdom whose only Mother was left with tears. Despite a hurtful heart, a Mother’s holy love had given her the strength to take care of each of her children, who was crying to the vast sea.

But a family could not be without a Father, and the kingdom was slowly losing its own status. No rich land could escape the eyes of tyrannical kings. And one by one, the evil men with thousands of chained bloodthirsty devils behind arrived, threatening to invade the kingdom. The war seemed to have lasted forever, and the children were pulled into misery.

Even with the power of a goddess fairy, the Mother was no match against their thirst for blood. Her magic was simply useless when facing the fangs and claws that were cutting into the flesh of her own and her children. Witnessing each of her children fall onto the ground one by one, being trampled and tortured in every way, the Mother was forced to run away from the place where she had dedicated her life to try and call for her husband’s help.

She climbed up the highest mountain with a red-dyed robe on her scratched hands, turned her head to the ocean palace far away, and called out a sorrowful voice. But then… sadly, the dragon king did not bother to return the answer— leaving behind his beloved wife alone, enduring thousands of pain.

With a heart now half-broken, she had no other option but to seek aid from a foreign group that was much more powerful though was also no less of a danger[…]

[…] At the time, her homeland— a remote cold kingdom of the North saw the sudden rise of a group as mighty as thunder. No one knew where they came from, but with just a glimpse of an eye, every kingdom had been forced to kneel down on their feet, even the nation's founder, her father, had to surrender and back down before them. Unlike Xích Quỷ or Chinese Dependencies, they were a strangely mysterious clan who did not proclaim themselves a name, and people back then were not sure why they did not such a thing— therefore, the group was hailed under the title Fae —signifying them as a clan with tremendous power, beyond even the gods.

With pain and sorrow, the Mother urgently returned to her homeland regardless of the changes in days and nights. By the time she arrived, the landscapes there were so different from her memory that she did not even recognize the region she was raised in. Once filled with sunshine and miraculous magics, the place had been turned into a solid, massive [building]/[stronghold]. But who was she to judge when the strong were destined to rule, especially now when she needed their strength to retake what belonged to hers, no matter the cost.

And as she finally met their leader, the Mother endured the shame and knelt down, begging them to save her children… How painful. Their leader, looking at her like a fierce tiger to a prey, let out a cruel smile. He agreed to her plea, but at a cost that she would regret for the rest of her life.

Upon returning to her fallen kingdom, the Mother brought behind her a monstrous army. The Nameless Clan slaughtered everything they passed by, tearing apart any devil that stood in their way. But the power they used was not from magic or beliefs— it came from an object they called great gears. Weapons that were tremendously powerful, giant emotionless monsters that always obeyed commands. A war that had brought thousands of pain, ended in mere seconds, demonstrating the massive strength which this clan had. Witnessing the bloody scene, the Mother begged once again in front of her children, asking them to teach such extraordinary power to the descendants of Dragons and Fairies. Their leader agreed.

Addendum 173-VN.3: Texts from the retrieved artifacts

During the second excavation in SCP-173-VN, the research team has found bones of many reptiles from the Dinosauria clade with lots of fangs and a skull structure similar to the Tyrannosaurus rex species, the difference is that on the top of their skull attached extensions that are similar to antlers or some kind of unidentified horns. Among the secured specimens, the research team discovered one instance whose corpse remains mostly intact as it was almost completely buried in the mud. The Department of Mythology cooperated with Site-29-VN to reconstruct the body model of this creature through sophisticated tomography and simulated its vocal sound by creating replicas of mouth tissue and respiratory organs which were then connected to an artificial larynx.

Through comparison, this creature seems to have many similarities with the engraved depictions on the cave cliff in the city’s outer wall. However, further research revealed that the species' bone structure had evolved to be more suitable for a deep sea environment rather than a rocky mountain one. After reviewing the file of SCP-073-VN, the Foundation realized that this structure, as well as its recreated body model, resembles the appearance of SCP-073-VN.

An interview has been conducted with the anomaly.

Related individuals: Director Nguyễn Dương, SCP-073-VN

Preface: In the past, SCP-073-VN did not respond or interact with any indirect interview. Therefore, Dir. Dương proposed that he should approach the containment cell and conduct the interview himself. The proposal was approved as the director once encountered the anomaly during its first containment. An audio recorder was provided so as to record the entire conversation.

[BEGIN LOG]

Dir. Dương went inside the containment cell, created a chair on the ground then sat down. SCP-073-VN opened its eyes, expressing a disinterested attitude.

Dir. Dương: Hello SCP-073-VN, it has been so long since you got notified of an interview right? Our apologies if you were bothered, but this is really necessary.

.

dragon

Artist’s depiction.

SCP-073-VN is the designation for an entity with the body of a massive black python, reaching around 45m long, weighing approximately ~290kg, and has four legs with claws and a pair of horns on its head. The anomaly’s entire body is covered by a layer of hard scales that can resist high temperatures. SCP-073-VN has an eternal injury on its left eye due to an attack by claws from an unidentified entity, possibly SCP-076-VN.

In addition to its extraordinary physical strength, the anomaly also shows an extremely high intelligence and sharp hearing. Originally, it was at first thought to be discovered at Tianzi Mountain, China by Agent ████, but through recovered documents from SCP-████-VN and many widely circulated folktales/legends, it is redetermined that the anomaly has been living at the East Vietnam Sea since its existence.

— Quoted from "A Summary of Occult Anomalies in legends — Scientific manual for junior personnel" by Dr. Dương, issued in the internal database of the Foundation - Vietnamese Branch.

SCP-073-VN: I have a name, doctor. Maybe to you humans, it was not regarded with much importance, but my kind does. Call me by my name Long, and stop spitting those idiotic numbers and random definitions that have already been thrown at me every day, or else this discussion will end right now.

Dir. Dương: Very well mister Long Vương, we will begin the interview in a moment. But first, I would like you to listen to this recorder.

[Director Dương took out an audio recorder and played the recreated vocal sound. SCP-073-VN aroused and let out a loud roar of anger].

Dir. Dương: Oh hold on there, you know this sound?

SCP-073-VN: My brothers, my family, my kind, how could I not know? We lived side by side for thousands, hundreds, and even millions of years, we were comrades who once shared meals and dreams together. We were the followers, the worshipers of the god who ruled every stream pouring this land and were the children of the Great Father of the seas and the Eternal Mother of the mountains, together fighting off the nameless dark Fae and the forever-flames.

Dir. Dương: May I ask why sir fearless dragon here suddenly turned emotional like this?

SCP-073-VN: The blood of my kind had dyed the forest red, our flesh became the nutrition that fed the region, and our bones turned into the energy that kept this land prosperous, as each of us fell down one by one. But such is an honor for us brothers as I saw our Mother’s teardrops for our fading breath, and our Father tightened his muscles and mourned for his children, we had received the love from both the Father and the Mother. And I am proud of them, my fallen brothers, but I also do miss them very much and the memories about them have carved deep into the scales and flesh of mine. If one were to blame, it was the devils of the night who deserved every punishment…

[Dir. Dương interrupted the anomaly’s speech, took out his glasses and a document from his pocket, and read them. After around 2 minutes, he raised his head up and continued to communicate with the anomaly].

Dir. Dương: Actually, we just recently discovered the skeletons of your kind, buried in a secret area. It is quite deep underground, but I believed it was the correct place, am I right?

[SCP-073-VN showed signs of excitement].

SCP-073-VN: So you have managed to find that area, it seems that even the most isolated mountainous place could not escape the hands of this foundation. Very well then, my stories would be meaningless if the knowledge I have continued to be hidden. Questioning what you want.

Dir. Dương: It seems that your kind had gone through a difficult war, would you mind providing some more information about it?

SCP-073-VN: Before I was born, before even the dawn of your mankind civilization, it was our kind that ruled the water. From the smallest rivers and drains running through the lands to the vast ocean where no shore could be seen, nowhere was without our footprints, no water had we not bathed, we lived in harmony with the streams and were the most faithful followers of the ocean. And following the will of rivers and seas, the first ruler of our kind was crowned as the Dragon King of Seven Seas with a reputation known in all four corners of the Earth and eight realms of the universe. Following the previous agreement, we became the guardians for the first Dragon King, swore to serve the Dragon race til death.

The Dragon King also had a daughter, a princess of dragons, having the beauty and intelligence that no one could compare to. But she did not seem to love the waves or the knowledge of the ocean and was instead, passionated for human’s delights and the winds of high mountains. I, as her guardian, had to keep many of her adventures secret from the first king. Then one day, she married to a mortal and gave birth to the great child. That child, though a hybrid, could carry the largest and oldest trees on his shoulders with only bare hands, his legs could run through thousands of feet of high mountains, and his eyes could see through the hearts of all things.

Dir. Dương: That story sounds extremely similar to a legend of our ancestors, could it be that this "extraordinary child" of yours had also hunted down many devils?

SCP-073-VN: Oh no, I have heard loads of tales that you humans told about him, but those so-called feats are nothing but a grain of salt in a much larger ocean of his epic historical glory. As you might know through our first conversation, the Father had not only always stood with us against the Phoenix race, but he did even more than that. He conquered and unified both lands and seas, and chose to treat the defeated descendants of the forever-flame with respect. He and the princess of the forever-flame married and incubated a hundred eggs. Combining the flame of vitality and the knowledge of oceans with each other, they created the most excellent people. But for a long time, the differences between the two races had hampered his happiness.

[The anomaly stopped for a moment before sighing].

SCP-073-VN: I must say that the love between Father and Mother was the most wonderful and purest form by the standards of both Dragon or Human. Despite being on the defeated side, the Mother’s heart was full of compassion and kindness, she always used the best medicinal plants to bandage our injuries, and always brought the best dishes that her people made on land to feed us. Since then, we entered an era of prosperity that had been never seen before. But over time, the forests’ fire began to dry out our scales, causing our shadow to slowly become that of a human, some were even assimilated and stuck in those shadows for eternity. Many of our kind even went extreme and rebelled against our Mother. In the end, our Father had to make the most difficult decision. He took the children whose dominant blood was that of the Dragon race down to the ocean palace, while the Mother took those with the flame of vitality to the mountains up high.

Dir. Dương: According to the previous interview, didn’t you mention that you were the last of your kind?

SCP-073-VN: That is correct, even the wisest dragons or the most tyrannical kings could not stand the test of time, when the "first to open its eyes" set the wings of those entities to this land, they brought with them death to every corners, but told the lies that neither the Mother nor the Father could realize. Those scums used magics to drain the vitality of every land, leaving behind a massive hold that still remains to this day.

Dir. Dương: I understand your frustration, but the question is how come you are the only survivor?

SCP-073-VN: Hold there now, why are you humans always so hasty? Those scums thought they would gain victory, but the dedication to freedom and the resilience of minds was not something they expected. The Mother had used the energy of the spirits around the environment to send her words through the winds that waved the Father’s sea.

He gathered everyone, loudly declared what crimes the "nameless nemesis" had committed, and made a huge roar. In mere seconds, dark clouds emerged and covered the sky, the thunders, the rainstorms, and the floods all struck across the mortal realm in response to his call. The whole world was stirred by the scream of all seas. At his call, a massive tsunami carried us straight to the battlefield. As soon as they saw our Father’s majestic figure and the might of our army, they rushed forward for a fight, but the ending was already clear and they were either drowned in the abyss or buried under our sharp teeth.

Dir. Dương: So you won with no casualty?

SCP-073-VN: We used to think so, but then those cunning bunch secretly performed an ancient ritual, changing the entire tide. They opened something evil and empty. They sacrificed their blood and flesh for something that they could not even understand, and then the endless void swallowed their appearance, their names, and even their existence. It was something completely opposite to the meaning of creation, the final destruction that resided only in the injuries of lives to which they themselves once worshiped. Terrified at the scene, the Father attempted to sacrifice himself to patch the empty hole, but how could we children allow him to do such a thing. We stopped him from his intent and decided to use our own bodies to fill the void. When the guardian's bodies became the final wall against those forgotten creatures, it also put an end to their bloody dynasty.

Dir. Dương: All right, thank you mister Long Vương for these valuable informations. I will meet you again in around a few months or so.

[Dir. Dương turned his back and was walking out of the room when he suddenly stopped at the threshold.]

Dir. Dương: What if I say that those nameless are returning?

SCP-073-VN: [cried out a roar] Then may the best be with you.

Footnotes
. Secondary class - Historia: The anomaly has effect on/connection to the history/origin/formation process of a country on the globe or of recorded historical events. Because the anomaly occurred in the past and is no longer affecting/influencing the possible present, the Foundation cannot be able to restore the state of normalcy. All current research will focus on the gathering, analyzing, and archiving knowledge and artifacts for future study.
. Translator’s Note: The first Vietnamese kingdom according to mythology.
. Translator’s Note: According to Vietnamese creation myth, the Vietnamese people are descended from Lạc Long Quân - the Dragon lord of Lạc, and Âu Cơ - the Fairy goddess lady. Together, they gave birth to a hundred-egg sac which later hatched into a hundred children, where the first son would later be crowned king (Hùng Vương) of Văn Lang. Historical texts often interpreted "a hundred children" as the ancient "Baiyue" (Bách Việt) - groups of various ethnicities that once inhabited Southern China and Northern Vietnam during the first millennium BC, to which among them were the tribe of Lạc Việt (who found Văn Lang, officially the first Vietnamese kingdom) and the tribe of Âu Việt (who conquered the former and established the unified kingdom of Âu Lạc). Because of these, modern Vietnamese often designated themselves as "Children of the Dragons and the Fairies" (con Rồng cháu Tiên, 昆蠬𡥙仙).

. Translator’s Note: "Thất Hải Long Vương" in Vietnamese
