Magical Potions,[1] also called Magic Potions[2] [3] [4] (also lowercase)[5] or simply Potions,[6] are items in Super Mario Bros. 2 , each resembling a flask with a bubbling liquid inside. They replaced the Magic Lamps from Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic .

Super Mario Bros. 2[edit ]

Magical Potions in Super Mario Bros. 2 can be picked up and thrown to the ground to create a temporary door from which the player character can enter Subspace. Magical Potions cannot create doors within a jar, over another door, or on unstable surfaces like quicksand.

BS Super Mario USA[edit ]

Magical Potions are items in BS Super Mario USA . They are necessary to find Wart in one of Subspace's jars as he is always hidden in these dimensions.

The Super Mario Bros. Super Show![edit ]

A Magical Potion is sometimes pulled out by King Koopa at the end of an episode in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! , usually when he is outmatched by Mario's group, in episodes such as "Bad Rap" and "Mario Meets Koop-zilla" and throws it, creating a Warp Zone for him to escape. The episode "Princess, I Shrunk the Mario Brothers" introduces two types of potions called the Magic Shrink Potion and Magic Growing Potion.

Super Mario-kun[edit ]

A Magical Potion has appeared in volume 8 of Super Mario-kun briefly, where Luigi tries to give it to Mario to try to help him defeat Tryclyde. Toad has also used the Magical Potion in a fight with Wart. He enters the door the potion creates and then gives power-ups to aid Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi during the fight, including Super Leaves, P-Wings, and Frog Suits.

Nintendo Adventure Books[edit ]

In Doors to Doom , when Mario and Luigi escape a stampede of Ninjis by jumping off a cliff while using a parasol to safely float down, they decide to escape by revealing a bottle of Magic Potion from a tuft of grass. However, this particular bottle of potion creates a door that has a lock displaying a shoelace puzzle on it. Mario and Luigi must solve the puzzle and push the correct button in order to escape the area; pushing the incorrect button makes the door lead them to an encounter where they get shot point-blank by a Shy Guy riding an Autobomb, leading to a Game Over.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie[edit ]

The sprite of the Magical Potion appears on various signs in the futuristic city in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie .[7] :0:14

Super Mario Advance[edit ]

  • European instruction booklet: "If you pick up a magic potion and toss it down, a door to Subspace will appear. Press +Control Pad up to enter the doorway. In Subspace, the grass you pull up will sometimes produce coins, and depending on where you open the doorway, 1-Up Mushrooms may also appear."
