History[edit ]

Super Mario series[edit ]

Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic / Super Mario Bros. 2 / Super Mario All-Stars / Super Mario Advance[edit ]

Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic marks the first appearance of "Please Select Player". When that game was later redeveloped as Super Mario Bros. 2 , the theme was given slightly more enhanced instrumentation and has been extended by several measures, which is the version subsequent appearances of the theme in the Super Mario franchise are based on. The Super Mario Bros. 2 version is also included in the official albums Game Sound Museum: Mario Bros. / Super Mario USA , Famicom Sound History Series: Mario the Music , and Nintendo Sound Selection Vol.3: B-Side Music .

In the Super Nintendo Entertainment System remake of Super Mario Bros. 2 in Super Mario All-Stars , an arrangement of "Please Select Player" plays for the same purpose as in the original game.

In the Game Boy Advance remake of Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Advance , a slightly higher-pitched arrangement of "Please Select Player" plays for the same purpose as in the original game.

Super Mario 3D World / Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[edit ]

In Super Mario 3D World and the Nintendo Switch port, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury , an arrangement of "Please Select Player" arranged by Toru Minegishi plays in the Lucky House slot machine minigames and in golden bonus rooms. It is titled "Lucky House" in the Nintendo Music app and "Slot Machine" in the official Super Mario 3D World Original Soundtrack album. This arrangement is in D-flat major, a half semitone up from the Super Mario Advance arrangement.

Super Mario Maker 2[edit ]

In Super Mario Maker 2 , the Super Mario 3D World arrangement and the original version of "Please Select Player" play whenever the "Bonus Music" sound effect is triggered in a Super Mario 3D World-style level and while the player is in their SMB2 form respectively.

Mario Kart World[edit ]

In Mario Kart World , a Dixieland jazz arrangement of "Please Select Player" can play in Free Roam during the day, on the route from Mario Circuit to Peach Stadium in the Special Cup, and on any VS Race route. This arrangement was also featured in the Mario Kart World Direct, where it plays during the "Fun with Everyone" section.
