I would like to offer my sincere apology to the Themer groups here on Groups.Drupal.Org and to this community in general ... I meant no disrespect to anyone. Being a non-artist I have the highest regard for those who can do what I cannot; create beauty in web designs and other visual art forms. Likewise as a programmer I have an equally high regard for all web developers and the difficulty of the work we do.

Hi, I just launched a new theme for TEDx events based on Acquia Marina at http://www.drupal.org/project/tedx

I had initially created it as a sub-theme but to make it easier for others to use it, I released it as an independent theme.

A detailed step-by-step list of changes I did to Acquia_Marina to turn it into TEDx theme is available at:

The third article in my Drupal series for Adobe.com is out now. This article covers Drupal Zen Sub-Themes, including Dreamweaver tip(s) when working with Drupal themes.

"When asked why I would recommend the Zen theme versus a core theme such as Garland, I answer, Zen was built to be a seed for your tree—you plant the seed, water it, and watch it grow! Garland looks nice, but is not documented well and has custom page template code that should not appear elsewhere. In short, Garland is just not right as the basis for a theme; the Zen theme is."

The new Acquia Slate theme features a photo prominently on the front page, which is also can be used in a smaller form as a header region background on inner pages. Currently the theme ships with a single "seascape" photo, but we'll be adding a banner-switcher setting that will allow you to choose between several images to change the look for your site.

For everyone out there making modifications to this theme (and I know this probably comes too late for lots of you, but better late than never, right?), here are the layered PSD files used to create Acquia Marina. They're not checked in to Drupal's CVS because not all the images used in here are released under the GPL*, which is a requirement for files hosted in the repository on drupal.org.

Hopefully this at least will make future modifications much easier, since you can work with the original Photoshop files now for changing colours, etc.

Only local images are allowed.Drupal community member garamond recently launched iEarth.ru with an extensive modification to Acquia Marina. He's kindly contributed the theme on drupal.org, which is now available for download!
