The new Acquia Slate theme features a photo prominently on the front page, which is also can be used in a smaller form as a header region background on inner pages. Currently the theme ships with a single "seascape" photo, but we'll be adding a banner-switcher setting that will allow you to choose between several images to change the look for your site.
Excellent photos that are available under a GPL license are harder to come by, so we thought we'd ask for the many excellent photographers in the Drupal community to come forward and make some suggestions (if you're willing to license the photo as GPL) for images for this future release. It needs to be at least 960px wide, and not too busy on the left side or bottom right corner, where the menu and/or mission statement overlay.
It's a dark background theme, but the photo's subject matter is open to interpretation -- nature scenes, city scenes, textures, close-ups, the sky's the limit. We'll pick a few favourites which will go in a future release, and you'll be credited on the project page.
As you may know, our very own Dries is a fantastic photographer, and we'll be including a couple of his photos in this release as well.

The first one I shot in June 2008 when I visited Chateau Frontenac in Quebec, Canada.

I realize this is a slightly dated discussion...but is the banner-switcher setting in the latest version? Am I missing how to do that? Or is it still a work in progress?

Extremely frustrating and discouraging
Love to help but despite entering the CAPTCHA about 10 times, I can't get passed the spam filter - I couldn't even see the CAPTCHA the first 3 times I tried to to save. I give up.
