Unemployment rate lower than in the previous quarter

In this year’s second quarter, there were fewer unemployed persons and more employed than in the first quarter. Among the latter, a tenth were in part-time employment, almost two thirds of them women.

Unemployment rate at 3.8%

In the 2^nd quarter of 2026, there were 39,000 unemployed persons, 4,000 fewer than in the previous quarter but 6,000 more than a year ago. There were again slightly more men (51%) than women (49%) among the unemployed.

The unemployment rate was 3.8%, 0.4 p.p. lower than in the previous quarter and 0.6 p.p. higher than a year ago. In the second quarter of last year, the unemployment rate was at the lowest level so far, at 3.2%.

Among men it was 3.6%, 0.2 p.p. higher, and among women 4.0%, 1.0 p.p. higher than in last year’s second quarter.

Number of employed again over 1 million

The number of employed persons again exceeded 1 million: 1,001,000 employed persons were recorded in the observed quarter, almost 1% more than in the same quarter last year. Among them, the number increased within employees in employment relationship, employees in other forms of work as well as student workers. The number of student workers continues to increase. It reached 35,000, which is 4,000 more than in the first quarter and 10,000 more than a year ago.

The number of self-employed persons remained at a similar level as in the first three months of this year, but decreased by over a tenth, to 115,000, compared to the second quarter of last year.

Women accounted for nearly two-thirds of all part-time workers

Just under 100,000 employed persons worked part-time, and almost two-thirds of them were women. The main reason for this type of work was reported to be education (29%), as student work represented a quarter of all part-time work.

For a quarter of part-time workers, the predominant reason for working part time was illness or disability, while for slightly more than a tenth, the main reason was caring for children or adult relatives. Women made up the majority of this group.

Employment rate higher, majority of inactive were retired persons and students

56.1% of the population aged 15 or more was employed, half a percentage point more than in the first quarter and 0.2 of a percentage point more than in the second quarter of 2025.

On the other hand, 41.7% of the population aged 15 or more was inactive. Among them, the majority were retired persons and students.

The employment rate among persons aged 20–64 increased by 0.6 p.p. compared to a year ago. It stood at 78.6%. Within this age group, inactive persons represented less than a fifth (19%) of the population.
