In the 2nd quarter of 2026, fewer vacancies and lower job vacancy rate, number of occupied posts remains the same

In the 2^nd quarter of 2026, 66.5% of all job vacancies were recorded at employers with 10 or more employees and 81.7% of all occupied posts. Compared to the previous quarter, the job vacancy rate went down by one-tenth of a percentage point.

Key statistics and comparisons with the previous quarter:

Fewer job vacancies

In the 2^nd quarter of 2026, around 20,000 job vacancies were recorded, 66.5% of which at employers with 10 or more persons in employment. Compared to the previous quarter, there were 1.7% fewer job vacancies. An overview by activity shows that demand for new labour force slightly increased in 8 out of 19 sections of activities. As in the previous quarter, the highest demand was in manufacturing, construction, and wholesale and retail trade. More than half of all job vacancies (53.3%) were advertised in the three mentioned sections.

Over the past eleven years, for which a comparable time series of data is available, the highest total number of job vacancies was advertised in the 2^nd quarter of 2022 (around 26,600).

The year-on-year comparison of the data, i.e. those of the 2^nd quarter of 2026 with the same period the year before, shows a higher demand for new labour force (by around 3,000). The number of job vacancies increased in 11 sections of activities, decreased in seven, and remained the same in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply. The largest year-on-year increase, with 850 more vacancies, was recorded in construction, followed by manufacturing with almost 800 more job vacancies.

Almost the same occupied posts

In the observed quarter, there were almost 803,900 occupied posts, 81.7% of which at employers with 10 or more persons in employment. The total number of occupied posts grew by almost 105 over the previous quarter. The largest increase was recorded in health and social work activities (by almost 700), followed by education (by about 330), and public administration, defence and compulsory social security activities (by around 230). A quarterly decrease in the number of occupied posts was recorded in ten sections of activity, the most in other business activities (almost by 550) and in real estate activities (almost by 270).

A year-on-year comparison shows that the number of occupied posts went up by about 7,000. Over the past eleven years, the total number of occupied posts was the highest in the 4^th quarter of 2023 (around 809,400).

The job vacancy rate lower

In this quarter, the job vacancy rate in Slovenia was 2.4%, one-tenth of a percentage point lower than in the previous quarter. The rate was the highest in construction (5.6%), followed by administrative and support service activities (5.2%). Over the past eleven years, the highest job vacancy rate (3.2%) was in the 2^nd quarter of 2022.

At employers with 10 or more persons in employment, the job vacancy rate was 2.0%, the same as in the previous quarter.
