説明: SCP-5729はカナダ、オンタリオ州農村部の大きな物置小屋に生息している霊的実体です。頭部から暫定的にCervidae.シカ科。のものと特定された1組の枝角が生えている、おぼろげなヒト型の輪郭という姿を取っています。小屋の外から、屋根裏部屋の窓を通さなければ視認できません。SCP-5729は如何なる生物とも交流しようとせず、SCP財団の研究員であるハロルド・ブランク博士が窓の近傍にいる時のみ出現します。電磁場計測器では、SCP-5729が視覚的に存在しない時、窓から微弱ながらも有意な数値が検出されます。

ブランク博士: 昼日中から化けて出る幽霊は多いのかい?
マタクサス博士: それで人を仰天させられると分かっているならね。
[2人とも笑う。]
ブランク博士: しかし、真面目な話、あの古ぼけた建物に何かが取り憑いているとでも思うのか?
マタクサス博士: ヴィクトリア朝時代の建物だ。きっと誰かがあそこで死んだ。統計的事実さ。
[録音上に沈黙。]
ブランク博士: 冗談だろう。
マタクサス博士: 半分は冗談かもな。
[2人とも笑う。]
マタクサス博士: 隣人の家には納屋があったそうだね?
ブランク博士: 納屋だったかな... 見た目は... うん。オーケイ、子供時代は納屋っぽく見えたが、物置小屋に近いのかもしれない。しかし2階建てだった...
マタクサス博士: 家禽小屋だろう。
ブランク博士: 何だって?
マタクサス博士: 家禽小屋。鶏舎とかじゃないか?
[ブランク博士は自らの額を叩く。]
ブランク博士: 思い出したぞ! あの人は確かにニワトリを飼ってた。
マタクサス博士: 誰が?
ブランク博士: ハンクおじさん。
マタクサス博士: 叔父さんの隣の家に住んでいたのか?
ブランク博士: いやいや。実際の叔父じゃない。ただ仲良しだっただけさ。良い隣人たちだった。
[ブランク博士は物置小屋を見つめる。]
ブランク博士: なぁ...
マタクサス博士: うん?
ブランク博士: ふと思い出したんだ。
[ブランク博士は、彼の地所と隣家を隔てる生垣に歩み寄り、マタクサス博士を振り返って、親指で物置小屋を指す。]
ブランク博士: ハンクは面白いおじさんだった。あそこに幽霊が住んでいると話してくれたことがある。
マタクサス博士: 今度は君が私に冗談を言うんだな。
ブランク博士: いや、本当だよ! 昨日のことのように思い出せる。彼は幽霊の名前はエノク (Enoch) だと言った — 当時の私は馬鹿なガキだったから、語尾を"k"で〆る イーノック (Enock) だと思った。ハンクが移住した時、イーノックも一緒にイギリスから来たんだ。ハンクがタイタニック号の運賃を2人分払わなくても済むように、スーツケースの中に入ってね。
マタクサス博士: 荷ほどきが大変だったろうに。
ブランク博士: 物語が主観的過ぎて当時の私にはよく理解できなかったのか、それとも本当にスーツケースの中の幽霊の話だったんだろうか?
マタクサス博士: 両方だな。
ブランク博士: とにかくだね、ハンクからその話を聞いた後、誓って私はそいつの姿を見たんだよ。

ブランク博士: イーノックはニワトリたちの世話をしている。ハンクはそう言った。

マタクサス博士: "何よりもはっきり"が聞いて呆れる。
ブランク博士: 向こうの家に住んでいた友達の少年にも見せたんだよ。
[ブランク博士は地所の反対側にある家を身振りで指す。]
ブランク博士: AJだったな、彼の名前は。AJもイーノックが見えると言った。
[ブランク博士は首を横に振る。]
ブランク博士: マヌケな子供だったと思うだろう? こんな事を考えたのは何年ぶりかな。AJは今頃何をしているのやら。
[小型カメラのシャッターが開閉するのと一致する音が記録される。]
ブランク博士: 私はね、ずっと、大きくなったらハンクおじさんにもう一度イーノックの話を訊きたかったんだ。それで、どうなったと思う?
マタクサス博士: [静かに] どうなったんだ?
ブランク博士: あっさり忘れてしまったのさ。
[ブランク博士は自らの家に引き返す。]
ブランク博士: ここは暑くて敵わないな。
