SCP-ZH-299

Item #: SCP-ZH-299

Object Class: Eucild

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-ZH-299 is to be contained in a special containment tank within an aquatic life containment chamber at Site-ZH-44, the specification of the holding tank is 2*2*3m. The tank provides running water containing plankton, algae and sand. The water turbidity should be controlled within 150 ~ 200 NTU.If the length of SCP-ZH-299 becomes greater than 2 meters, the drainage system will be activated to drain all the tank water until SCP-ZH-299 shrinks to less than 12.1 centimeters.

Experiments related to SCP-ZH-299 can only be performed with the consent and presence of the project leader, Dr. Cui Neng-Zheng.

Note: After experiment ZH-299-10, the seawater provided in a single experiment must be limited to less than 3000ml.

Description: SCP-ZH-299 is an aquatic creature. It looks like an adult blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus) . It feeds on plankton and algae in the water, and its body structure is similar to that of Porifera. SCP-ZH-299 has been observed to behave in a variety of ways similar to those of cetaceans.

When SCP-ZH-299 contacts with the liquid, it can change its volume by absorbing the liquid. The rate of absorption and expansion will be affected by the type of the liquid. When SCP-ZH-299 gets out of the liquid, it will visibly shrink. The minimum body length currently recorded is 12.10 centimeters, and the maximum size is 58.76 meters.

SCP-ZH-299 was discovered on January 25, 2002, Leopard, an agent lurking in the Coast Guard Administration, reported the discovery of an "abnormally huge whale" off the coast of Changbin, Taitung. After that, MTF-Tu Si-1 "Sheepdog" was dispatched to the scene.

Note: Dr. Cui Neng-Zheng is the main person in the containment operation, Agent Leopard arrived first to conduct a cover-up operation.

(LOG START)

Dr. Cui Neng-Zheng: Are you there?

Agent Leopard: I'm here. Wow, this guy is really huge!

Dr. Cui Neng-Zheng: Can you estimate the size?

Agent Leopard: Let me think about it, it's about 40 meters… Huh?

Dr. Cui Neng-Zheng: What happened?

Agent Leopard: It seems to be flattened?

Dr. Cui Neng-Zheng: Flattened? What happened?

Agent Leopard: Well, the object is lying on the shore. When I just got here, I had to raise my head and stand near its mouth to barely see its eyes, but now they're right in front of me.

Dr. Cui Neng-Zheng: Did it move just now?

Agent Leopard: No, it was just lying on the shore, probably stranded.

Dr. Cui Neng-Zheng: Okay. Anything else special?

Agent Leopard: Emm, it seems to have become shorter? Its tail was on the shoreline.

Dr. Cui Neng-Zheng: It's getting flatter and shorter… doesn't that mean it's shrinking?

Agent Leopard: Probably it will be. The size of the object seems to have really shrunk, and now it looks about the same size as an ordinary large truck.

Dr. Cui Neng-Zheng: Okay, I get it. Please continue to ensure that there's no public witnesses ."Sheepdog" will arrive there soon.

Dr. Cui Neng-Zheng: Hey, "Sheepdog". I don’t think there’s any need to prepare large-scale transportation equipment, we can go directly to the scene.

(LOG END)

Conclusion: MTF-Tu Si-1 "Sheepdog" arrived at the scene 7 minutes later and completed the containment. SCP-ZH-299's body length shrank to approximately 60.71 cm. A-Class amnestics were administered to those who witnessed the incident, and a blue whale carcass was placed where SCP-ZH-299 was originally stranded.

Note: The following experiment is to test the absorption rate of SCP-ZH-299 for different liquids. All experiments were conducted when the object was 12.10 cm in length.

Experimental Log ZH-299-1
Process: SCP-ZH-299 was soaked in 1000 ml of pure water
Note: N/A
Result: SCP-ZH-299 absorbed all the liquid in 2 minutes and 14 seconds. After the absorption, the object was 26.42 cm in length.

Experimental Log ZH-299-2
Process: Soak SCP-ZH-299 in 1000 ml of pure water mixed with 10 ml of red ink
Note: N/A
Result: SCP-ZH-299 absorbed all the liquid in 2 minutes and 57 seconds. After the absorption, the object was 25.80 cm in length. The surface of the object is observed to appear reddish in color, similar to that of ink.
After the experiment, the surface of SCP-ZH-299 recovered after expanding and shrinking three times.

Experimental Log ZH-299-3
Process: Soak SCP-ZH-299 in 1000 ml of pure water mixed with 100g of sand
Note: N/A
Result: SCP-ZH-299 absorbed all the liquid in 3 minutes and 2 seconds. After the absorption, the object was 26.07 cm in length. 99.72g of sand remains at the bottom of the container.
Judging from current experiments, impurities in the liquid will affect the absorption and body shape changes of SCP-ZH-299 to a certain extent.--Dr. Cui Neng-Zheng

Experimental Log ZH-299-4
Process: Soak SCP-ZH-299 in 1000 ml of pure water mixed with 100g of krill
Note: N/A
Result: SCP-ZH-299 showed a cetacean mouth-opening behavior 12 seconds after the experiment began, and sprayed water from the hole on its head 4 times during the experiment.SCP-ZH-299 absorbed all the liquid in 2 minutes and 43 seconds. After the absorption, the object was 26.33 cm in length. 3.61g of krill remains at the bottom of the container.
During this experiment, SCP-ZH-299’s active predatory behavior was witnessed.,It is worth mentioning that the object, as a Porifera creature, would not exhibit this behavior, I do not think that the project can swallow most of the prey in a single feeding, either. Research on the object’s predatory behavior can be taken into consideration.--Dr. Cui Neng-Zheng

Experimental Log ZH-299-7
Process: Soak SCP-ZH-299 in 1000 ml of blue whale blood
Note: N/A
Result: SCP-ZH-299 jumped out of the container approximately 3 seconds after being placed in the liquid, and struggled when trying to put it back into the container. SCP-ZH-299 absorbed all the liquid in 4 minutes and 49 seconds. During this period, the subject attempted to jump out of the container 16 times. After the absorption, the object was 25.82 cm in length.
After the experiment, SCP-ZH-299 continued to crash into the containment tank for 10 hours.
Avoid putting SCP-ZH-299 into the blood in future experiments.--Dr. Cui Neng-Zheng

Experimental Log ZH-299-8
Process: Soak SCP-ZH-299 in 1000 ml of seawater
Note: N/A
Result: SCP-ZH-299 absorbed all the liquid in 1 minute and 2 seconds. During the experiment, the subject continued to flap its pectoral fins. After the absorption, the object was 85.75 cm in length.
Among all the liquids tested, seawater has the best expansion effect on the project.--Dr. Cui Neng-Zheng

Note: The purpose of the following test is to test the expansion limit of SCP-ZH-299.

Experimental Log ZH-299-10
Process: Soak SCP-ZH-299 in 10000 ml of seawater
Note: For safety purpose, the experiment was conducted in a pool with a drainage system.
Result: SCP-ZH-299 expanded and continued to emerge from the water within the first 3 minutes and 57 seconds of the experiment, the behavior did not stop until the seawater in the experimental pool was completely eliminated. The experiment caused damage to the experimental site and serious injuries to three researchers.
After subsequent investigation, it was found that SCP-ZH-299 absorbed 5293 ml of seawater during the experiment and expanded to 58.76 meters in length.
All the losses caused by the experiment were caused by my misunderstanding of the anomaly of SCP-ZH-299. The seawater provided for future experiments must be less than 3000ml. I am very sorry.--Dr. Cui Neng-Zheng

Incident ZH-299-2

On ██/██, 2006, two pieces of old, damaged paper were found in the containment tank of SCP-ZH-299. Images from the containment room confirmed that the object was ejected from its drain outlet. The paper was found to have Chinese characters written in black ink such as thousands of kilometer in length, and the small ones tens千里,小者數十, waves like thunder浪成雷 and other words. The paper was found to have the abnormality of completely absorbing moisture on its surface.
Since no relevant content has been found in the foundation's database, and it seems that this should be part of an old document owing to the words on the paper, I suggest that the piece of paper be transferred to Mu-Yi Museum for investigation.--Dr. Cui Neng-Zheng

To: Mu-Yi Museum, ███
From: Dr. Cui Neng-Zheng
Subject: The investigating results of paper provided by the Foundation

Dear Dr. Cui Neng-Zheng,

Thank you for the information. After comparison, the paper matched the material and damage of an abnormal volume in the Mu-Yi Museum. Thanks to the Foundation's assistance, the library was able to restore the volume.

Excerpted from "Annotated Annotations of Ancient and Modern Anomalies, Fish and Bug - Part Five":

"Sponge Whale, a kind of saltwater fish. The large ones were thousands of kilometers in length, and the small ones tens of centimeters in length. Adapted to water, especially seawater. Big in the water, small on the land. Believe whales are their species, and have been seen swimming in the sea with dozens of whales."
"Once, a fisherman killed a whale, and its blood flowed into the sea. Soon, a sponge whale crashed his boat, creating waves like thunder, and sprayed water like rain. Everyone who saw it was frightened and ran away, no one had courage to stop them."

Footnotes
. NTU, or water turbidity, refers to the turbidity in water samples caused by a large amount of suspended matter visible to the naked eye.
. Including a large number of water pores on the surface of its body, and the main components of its cells are calcium carbonate, silicon carbonate and collagen.
. Behaviors currently observed include spraying water from the hole on the head, rushing out of the sea (Breaching), flapping pectoral fins (Pec slaps), etc.
. Whales breathe through blowholes on their heads. After analyzing the composition of the liquid ejected from the hole of SCP-ZH-299, it is speculated that the purpose of the behavior is drainage.
. The Porifera brings water into the water pores through the swing of flagella to obtain seawater with food.
. Whales use the behavior to communicate with closer members of their species.
. Whales use the behavior to communicate with farther members of their species.
