Division ID: SCP-FRA93

Object no: 062

Risk Type: Biological/Esoteric

Threat Level: くろまるくろまるくろまる

Containment Procedures: The hard drives on which the video surveillance images containing SCP-FRA93-062 are recorded are separated from the rest of the others and marked with a yellow dot on the underside of the case. When instances of SCP-FRA93-062 appear on any of the infected system's cameras, the room being inspected by the cameras is to be immediately sealed off. If individuals are present in the room, they must be removed from it as quickly as possible without entering directly into the camera's field of view. Victims have about 1-2 minutes to get out before they disappear permanently. If the infected surveillance camera system is private, or if it is possible to move the cameras, all infected cameras should be targeted towards an empty room, preferably sealed off. Otherwise, the destruction of cameras targeting rooms which cannot be locked or left in less than a minute should be considered. The only way to prevent damage to SCP-FRA93-062 at this time is to observe the appearance of the first instances using camera footage. The direct transfer of images from infected devices should be prohibited, but screenshots or wireless captures is possible without incurring harmful effects.

Local Containment Procedures: The application of the Procedures at the local level of the FRA93 division is currently partial due to the limited availability and position of the only member available for capture. A reinforcement of the alarm system in addition to a manual triggering mechanism from the camera room has been installed and members of the FRA91 and FRA75 anonymized divisions regularly sabotage unprotected cameras. In order to create a camera quarantine system with the aim of removing instances of 062 from the overall system but also to better manage inventory, a member responsible for security would be preferable. Any help from anyone working in an HR company is welcome.

It's also worth noting that, although it was not included in the more general Containment Procedures, I personally recommend sleep medication and/or psychological therapy due to the very high risk of witnessing live deaths during surveillance episodes.

Description: 062 is a species of cockroach-like insect, impossible to determine in size, that only appears in video surveillance images, which I'll refer to hereafter as "videoparasites". For the time being, they have only been detected in images from cameras installed by Teracom at its premises in Aulnay-sous-Bois, 93. There are currently 21 infected cameras out of a total of 36, 7 of which have been rendered inoperable by various sabotage techniques on my part (disconnection, painting, blocking the camera at an appropriate angle and blurring the lens). These sabotage methods have proved effective in preventing further instances of videoparasites, but need to be repeated regularly due to the replacement of cameras by Teracom's security manager.

Cameras become infected when they come into contact with a previously infected device: a hard disk, a computer, or even an electrical network, as long as it has been through a wired connection. Infected hard drives, or those that are part of an infected network, emit buzzing noises similar to those of cockroaches in flight instead of the classic scratching noise at a frequency proportional to that of the disk. Although they seem to work properly, it is not advisable to use them, and in the absence of network-isolated hardware to experiment with them, stay off the system overnight. If storage space of healthy disks is lacking, they can be used to store recordings from cameras that have been confirmed as infected.

Surprisingly, infection of the entire camera system is not immediate: not only is there a fairly long incubation period, but no new cases of video parasites have been detected without a living individual passing through the camera's field of vision. The hypothesis that 062 is attracted to living creatures is currently the leading theory, as well as on its mode of operation described below. It should also be noted that 062 appears to be an indoor species, since its appearance is only possible with a camera placed indoors.

At a random time during the night, a small number of glitches (less than 5) appear on the corresponding screen of an infected camera. From that point on, if a living creature enters the camera's view, the number of creatures on the screen grows exponentially (the typical value is variable, but around 15 s-1) until the screen is completely covered. This process takes between 1 and 2 minutes, occasionally a few seconds. Once this process has started, the entire room, at least part of which is monitored by the camera, becomes a risk zone. When no more pixels of the original image are visible under the 062 instances, the image freezes for 15 to 30 seconds, before the glitches quickly leave the screen and reveal a completely empty room. No victims have ever been found.

Due to the nature of these cameras, almost all 062 victims are burglars or squatters, which makes police work particularly difficult beyond the morning forgetfulness. As a result, no seizure of surveillance equipment has yet been carried out, but this eventuality would be the ideal breeding ground for an 062 infestation across the Paris region at the very least. Fortunately, one of the members of SCP-FRA75 is a police inspector in Paris and has placed Teracom under personal surveillance to avoid this type of problem.

Update: On 29/11/2005, a 22nd camera which covers the intercom access to the secure Teracom site was infected. A woman, whom I recognized as the wife of Mourad Mirigha, rang the doorbell in a state of obvious panic. The video was quickly covered by 062 and she didn't run away, insisting that I open the door for her. The remote opening mechanism was broken. However, I was able to hear the sound coming from the room. Having been unable to test the infectious potential of the audio, here's an audio transcript.

[Buzzing is audible on the microphone.]

Please help me! Help me, please open up! Help, they're crawling under my skin, I can feel them biting my tongue, please! They're under my skin under my eyes in my nose in my veins they're crawling they're crawling they're swarming I'm throwing them up I can't see the ground I can't see my skin the insects are— [Humming is audible on the microphone.]
