Item #: SCP-CN-3980
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: Surveillance cameras have been installed within SCP-CN-3980's interior covering its entire volume. The elevator in building 13 of the ████████ housing estate has been indefinitely deactivated under the pretense of mechanical failure.
Description: SCP-CN-3980 is a topological anomaly occurring in building 13 of ████████ housing estate in ███████ City. Upon using the elevator to access the fifth floor, the elevator will instead open into an anomalous space similar to the original fifth floor. The original fifth floor remains accessible through the stairwell or external windows, and does not have any anomalous effects; when viewed from this floor, the elevator appears to be broken, even though the elevator functions on all other floors. No anomalous effects manifest when using the elevator to access floors other than the fifth.
The following similarities exist between the original fifth floor and SCP-CN-3980:
- SCP-CN-3980 is laid out similarly to the original fifth floor, including a corridor and one apartment unit.
- The apartment unit's furnishing is the same between SCP-CN-3980 and the original fifth floor.
- Wireless signal remains accessible from within SCP-CN-3980, and positioning services report the corresponding location on the original fifth floor.
However, there are the following differences:
- SCP-CN-3980 does not link to any other floors; the stairwell has been replaced with a wall.
- The only way to leave SCP-CN-3980 is through the lift; the corridor and apartment unit's windows have been sealed shut and attempts to break down walls have failed.
- The view from the windows within SCP-CN-3980 is identical to that from the original fifth floor, but it appears to be night regardless of actual time and no signs of human activity are visible.
The time of manifestation and full structure of SCP-CN-3980 remain unknown.
Discovery: SCP-CN-3980 was initially discovered after Chen █████, the owner of the apartment on the original fifth floor of building 13, reported that she had woken up to discover that the room had been "broken into by an unknown person"; the police maintained contact with her and dispatched officers to her residence. At the time, the elevator in building 13 was out of order for unknown reasons. Upon ascending to the fifth floor via the stairwell and entering the residence, officers found that the apartment was empty. Upon requesting further details, the line was suddenly cut and the incident was deemed a false report case.
Following this, the elevator was repaired and a resident inadvertently discovered the anomaly on the fifth floor, after which the Foundation intervened, discovering the existence of SCP-CN-3980 and Chen █████'s corpse in the apartment's bedroom. The cause of death was deemed to be blunt force trauma to the head, and she was determined to have died the night after the original police call. The corpse's hands were adhered to the window; it is thought that Chen █████ was attempting to call for help by hitting the window.
However, the building's security camera records indicate that besides Chen █████, no other personnel entered or left SCP-CN-3980. Further investigation into the possible culprit is underway.
