Item #: SCP-CN-298
Object Class: Neutralized
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-CN-298 has been confirmed as neutralized, and containment measures have been archived. All SCP-CN-298 items are stored in the low-value small items archive area of Site-CN-85, and the drawings, origami patterns, and postcard content on them have been typed into computer. The Foundation's standard anomaly CCTV system will monitor for possible signs of recurrence of SCP-CN-298. If its anomalous properties are confirmed to have been restored, research and containment will be resumed.
Despite the existence of a large number of uncontained SCP-CN-298 spreading among civilians, there is no need to fully contain them given that their anomalous properties have dissipated and they do not contain sensitive information.
Description: SCP-CN-298 is a kind of handmade origami product appears as a common paper airplane, with slight variations in appearance styles among different individuals. SCP-CN-298 is folded from a standard A4 paper, with a maximum length of 16 centimeters. The folding marks of the project are relatively rough, similar to the folding operation completed by human children under the age of ten.
SCP-CN-298 is capable of flying regardless of the surrounding weather conditions and physical laws, and its flight is autonomous without human control, with an unpredictable speed. If obstacles are encountered during the flight, the project will directly penetrate the obstacles and continue flying. The flight of the project follows the migration pattern of birds, often resulting in large-scale clusters. Multiple witness reports of cluster flights of this project have been suppressed and deleted by the foundation.
When a human witnesses SCP-CN-298 in flight and becomes aware of its existence, it will trigger the most significant anomalous effects of the project. The witness will not be able to receive new visual images for the next 3-12 minutes, and will only be able to see the frozen view footage seen during the sighting of the project. The duration of this effect varies from person to person. Normally, after the abnormal effects are restored, the affected individuals will focus on finding the project. However, due to the fact that the flight movement of the project is not affected during the period when the witness is affected, the project usually leaves the witness's field of view after the witness regains normal vision.
Through experiments, multiple sightings by the same person will repeatedly activate this effect. The project images generated through video recording, photography, and other methods also have this anomalous property, while the artistic works depicting the project are not anomalous.
If SCP-CN-298 is first witnessed and activated by this effect, a freeze frame image of the first witness will appear on the A4 paper on which it is made. The expression form of the picture is realistic painting, drawn by crayons. The time when the painting was created is unknown. Subsequent sightings will not alter the content depicted on the project.

After a period of flight, SCP-CN-298 will eventually terminate its flight state automaticlly and fall to the ground. After it falls, the sighting project will not cause any abnormal effects. Unless the project terminates the flight in this way, it is impossible to capture and control the project through known means. If the terminated flight project is unfolded and restored to flat paper, drawings drawn on it can be found.
After unfolding SCP-CN-298, a postcard can also be found inside. The postcard is a commonly used postcard around the area shown in the picture on the project, and the language written on it is the mother tongue of the witness. The text on the postcard mainly describes the local scenery and lyrical language, while the theme expresses the recorder's enjoyment and love for the trip. The content on the postcard complies with the correct mailing regulations, and the mailing location is the first sighting location, as shown in the painting on the project. The recipient is the Cincinnati Zoo in Ohio, USA. The contents of each postcard are not exactly the same. To obtain detailed records, please access file M-CN-298.39 after obtaining authorization.
Neutralize Record: On September 1, 2014, all SCP-CN-298 in flight terminated their flight status and crashed to the ground. The public's attention to the abnormal appearance of a large number of paper airplanes has been suppressed and covered up. The direct cause of this phenomenon is currently unknown. All SCP-CN-298 subsequently lost their anomalous properties, making it impossible to further investigate their anomalous characteristics and the reasons behind this phenomenon. It is worth noting that on September 1, 2014, all drawings on SCP-CN-298 underwent a change, with the paper airplane appearing in the drawings replaced by a flying passenger pigeon (Ectopistes migratorius), which was the last anomaly of SCP-CN-298.
After a standard observation period of one year, SCP-CN-298 was officially confirmed as invalid as no signs of abnormal property recovery were found.
