Item #: SCP-CN-285

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Only one copy of SCP-CN-285's installation package is to be kept in the Site-CN-██ database. As the object is currently only distributed privately, one Mobile Task Force has been tasked with preventing leakage of SCP-CN-285.

Description: SCP-CN-285 is a mobile application named Chronicle of Glory, supporting Android, iOS and Windows Phone systems. SCP-CN-285's installer has a file size of 538.21 MB; however, after installation the application itself will display a size of 0 B; connecting the mobile device to a computer displays the same result.

When a subject holds the device and opens SCP-CN-285, the screen will show the text "Singleplayer play is recommended for best experience" and "Please place your device on a stable flat surface to play"; at this point, the object will not start until the instructions are followed.

Once the object starts, one unknown humanoid entity (designated SCP-CN-285-1) will manifest opposite the user. If there is no space opposite the player, the entity will project itself onto a flat surface opposite the player, typically appearing as "a haggard middle-aged man clothed in tattered black robes" (when appearing in fantasy settings) or "a man wearing an old suit of black armor" (when appearing in medieval or technological settings).

SCP-CN-285-1 will communicate with the user in the role of a tabletop role playing game's Game Master. However, it appears to be incapable of independent thinking when not in a game setting, and has not responded to Foundation questioning.

After the user sits in front of SCP-CN-285-1 for more than 3 seconds, SCP-CN-285-1 will begin to narrate a short segment of setting information and request that the user build a character. There has been considerable variety in the settings described by the entity, including but not limited to high/low fantasy, steampunk/cyberpunk, [DATA EXPUNGED], Foundation-like, as well as several unknown settings. The ruleset of the game is also not limited to turn-based role-playing combat, can include mechanics from other genres such as adventure games, Japanese-style bishoujo games, and simulation games.

Once the character sheet has been completed, SCP-CN-285-1 will say "Then, let us begin our grand adventure!" and use its index finger to touch one of the user's eyes (typically the right eye). At this point, the user's eye will be modified in an unknown manner. Testing reveals that the modified eye is physically blind as the lens becomes opaque. However, an unknown source of light continues to project scenes onto the retina. All attempts to identify the source of this light have failed.

Due to the above effect, the user will "see" unknown scenery while the objective is active. Users' testimony perfectly corresponds to the scenery and events described by SCP-CN-285-1. Based on the differences in game mechanics, the user will encounter situations where they need to leave their seat and move around; during this process, the user appears to be unable to see their real-world surroundings, but is rarely obstructed by real-life objects.

Regardless of the setting, SCP-CN-285-1 will remain active for 3 to 5 hours, stopping after a "task" or "event". Even if the user requests to continue the game, SCP-CN-285-1 will say "The grand chronicle will continue next time!" and disappear, after which the object will enter a dormant state. The dormant state will continue for a minimum of 8 hours, after which the object can be activated again.

All effects suffered by the user during the active period (including positive and negative effects such as bodily harm or strengthening, as well as emotional changes such as excitement or depression) will be in some way reflected on the user in real life. For instance, if the user "loses their right arm", the user will be unable to move their right arm or feel any sensation in it while the game is active. Even if during this period the user "regains" their arm, they remain unable to use it in the same manner as before losing it.

For further experimental data, please see Experiment Log 285-C.

On 20██/██/██, while D-15471 was testing the object's fantasy setting, D-15471's right eye was injured in a battle. This led directly to [DATA EXPUNGED], and D-15471 disappeared as a result. SCP-CN-285-1 remained silent for a few seconds and said "Bug uploaded, [unclear] unit; player was transferred due to visual sensory transmission device damage; thought to be lost, end report." and disappeared.

On 20██/██/██, the Foundation discovered a salesman appearing to be from the Group of Interest "Letters Entertainment" as well as advertisements for SCP-CN-285 on an underground forum. At that point, 2█ users had commented on the post and ordered the object. The Foundation attempted to send a private message to this user, but received no responses; following this, the email address corresponding to the account used received an email with an attached copy of SCP-CN-285. The contents of the email are below

Footnotes
. Testing has shown that smooth, curved surfaces and uneven walls will not affect SCP-CN-285-1's manifestation (although this differs in some respects from the usual manifestation). As such, this criterion still requires a concrete definition.
