Item #: SCP-CN-190
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: In view of SCP-CN-190's properties, Site-CN-75-C█ has been constructed around its original habitat. Personnel caught trespassing are to be questioned and then administered Class C amnestics before being handed to the local authorities. Every 2 weeks as appropriate, all caverns in the containment facility are to be cleaned by two or three Class D personnel. Prior to cleaning, a head count of all SCP-CN-190 instances (as of 20██/04/██, 1█ instances of SCP-CN-190 have been discovered) is to be taken and all instances are to be transferred to a 5 m x 5 m x 5 m containment chamber 30 m from the caverns. While cleaning, all personnel are to wear S6 venom-resistant masks and a specially designed 3 cm thick steel cap; if at any point during cleaning a fragrant smell is detected or any of the personnel are injured, cleaning is to be stopped immediately and the injured personnel are to be given immediate medical attention. Cleaning is to complete within 2 hours; at the end, 3 kg of fresh fruit are to be placed in the caverns.
Description: SCP-CN-190 is a freshwater crustacean similar to the Chinese spiny lobster (Panulirus stimpsoni), first found in a cave in a mountainous region in ██████ County, Kunming City, Yunnan Province. Adults can be as long as half a meter. The species is typically described as black or beige in color, and its rear muscle and pincers are extremely developed, giving instances twice the grip force of Chinese spiny lobsters and the ability to jump.
The main difference between SCP-CN-190 and other lobsters is their ability to alter the path of light. When directly looking at an instance of SCP-CN-190, it is difficult to see the instance; however, when looking at an instance from an angle of ██° or greater, SCP-CN-190 will become visible in one's peripheral vision. Another difference is that instances of SCP-CN-190 are able to produce a fragrant gas from the [REDACTED] that confuses nearby animals, the main components of which are [DATA EXPUNGED]. Even when dispersed, the gas remains potent; one SCP-CN-190's release is capable of affecting a 200 m radius.
SCP-CN-190 is omnivorous, but prefers meat. When no prey are immediately available, SCP-CN-190 may leave their caves to search for prey or fruits to consume. With a significant risk of starvation, instances SCP-CN-190 may even eat other instances to stay alive.
SCP-CN-190 typically hunt alone but eat together; while hunting, SCP-CN-190 instances will produce a large quantity of gas to lure animals into their cave, after which the instances will approach head on to assess the prey's size. After SCP-CN-190 is within 0.5 m of the prey, it will use its developed rear muscles to leap at the prey and use their pincers to slice its throat, then wait for the prey to die before dividing the meat for consumption.
For unknown reasons, SCP-CN-190 instances that leave their original habitat will lose the ability to alter the paths of light and generate fragrance within a week; these instances are a light grey in color and have a significantly slower metabolism and slower movement speed compared to other SCP-CN-190 instances; if these instances are returned to their original habitat, other SCP-CN-190 instances will consider them as prey.
Addendum: Discovery of SCP-CN-190
SCP-CN-190 was initially discovered after reports of farmers disappearing while searching for materials in the mountains were circulated in Kunming. This attracted the attention of Agent Li ███████; two months later, he heard of [DATA EXPUNGED] from a farmer in ██████ County, which led him to discover SCP-CN-190's original cave habitat two months later. Within the cave were ██ male and █ female corpses, rotten fruit, and [DATA EXPUNGED]. One week later, SCP-CN-190 was successfully contained.
