Item #: SCP-CN-143
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: The 8 instances of SCP-CN-143 in Foundation captivity have been contained at Living Organism Containment Chamber #12 at Site-CN-34. As they do not require sustenance, feeding is to consist solely of using 8 kg of watermelon at a time to reward instances in special circumstances. MTF-庚午-01 ("Only Fragrance") has been entrusted with monitoring appearances of further instances; upon any suspicion of further instances appearing, the potential instance is to be taken into containment.
Description: SCP-CN-143 is a species of animal not resembling any other, described as "similar in shape to a small dog and very fierce". On average, instances of SCP-CN-143 are 58 cm long, 33 cm tall, and weigh 27 kg. The object has traits of mammals, such as fur; a structure consisting of a head, neck, body, four limbs and a tail; and warm-bloodedness; its brain is relatively large and developed. However, reproductive organs are not present, and how the species reproduces is unknown. X-ray scanning indicates that the body of the object does not contain normal internal organs, and its internal structure is drastically different from all known animals. Dissection of a specimen is currently pending approval; for the object's X-ray images, see Document CN-143-Alpha.
Instances do not appear to require sustenance through ordinary means; the earliest contained SCP-CN-143 instance has not displayed any need for food for 372 days; however, instances express great interest in watermelons and other fruits. The reason for this is unknown.
The object's primary anomalous property is that the object is capable of predicting when harm will occur to children, as well as its ability to affect the mental state of human children who have suffered harm; children near the object describe a feeling of "significant mental calm".
The earliest recorded manifestation of SCP-CN-143 was in 1894. At that time, Abnormality Institute member Zhou █████████ discovered the first instance of the anomaly in [DATA EXPUNGED], Shao████ City, Zhejiang Province. Based on the description provided, he was spending a night in a shed near a farming village on the outskirts of Shao████ in [DATA EXPUNGED]. At that time, an SCP-CN-143 instance appeared and led Zhou to a nearby watermelon field. Zhou heard two unknown human voices discussing whether or not to rob the silver necklace of the youth guarding the watermelon field. Zhou shouted at the two voices, who ran away; after that, the SCP-CN-143 entity disappeared before Zhou's eyes.
Memetic inspection passed. Welcome, O5 Council member.

The containment of SCP-CN-143 has allowed me to read through some of the initial material left behind by the Abnormality Institute. I have also found the first textual recording of SCP-CN-143 by the deceased former Abnormality Institute member Zhou █████████. I have translated these into modern vernacular Chinese and archived them.
In addition, during this period, Site-CN-34 suffered a small-scale containment breach. While restoring containment, our agents used the newly developed Foundation ████████ device.
This containment breach only took seven minutes to recover from. However, when I returned to my office, I discovered that some changes had occurred in the earliest Abnormality Institute records, which I think are effects of the ████████ device.
All mentions of "near Ning-Shao-Tai Circuit, Zhejiang Province" had been replaced with "Luzhen Village, Ning-Shao-Tai Circuit, Zhejiang Province".
There are no historical records indicating that this Luzhen really existed; historians and literary experts consider Luzhen to be a fictional location. However, the alterations in the text really do exist.
After that, I showed the prayer mat and jacket left behind by SCP-CN-073 to an SCP-CN-143 instance. The instance expressed a strong sense of dependency and familiarity. However, SCP-CN-073 had never mentioned meeting an SCP-CN-143 instance. Are the similarities between these two objects really because of that impossible reason? Did this "Luzhen" cease to exist outside of literature because of the literature's reality-altering effect? I am requesting permission to further investigate.
From Dr. Hannah.
我那时并不知道这所谓猹的是怎么一件东西——便是现在也不知道——只是无端地觉得状如小狗而很凶猛。
At that time, I didn't know what kind of thing this zha was — in fact, even now I do not know, but for no particular reason I had a feeling that it was similar in shape to a small dog and very fierce.
"不是。走路的人口渴了摘一个瓜吃,我们这里是不算偷的。要管的是獾猪,刺猬,猹。月亮底下,你听,啦啦的响了,猹在咬瓜了。你便捏了胡叉,轻轻地走去......"
"No. Here, if someone passing by is thirsty and picks a watermelon to eat, we don't consider it stealing. What we look out for are badgers, hedgehogs and zha. Under the moonlight, when you hear the sound of crunching, that's when a zha is biting into the melons. Then you take the pitchfork and slowly walk over…"
他正在厨房里,紫色的圆脸,头戴一顶小毡帽,颈上套一个明晃晃的银项圈,这可见他的父亲十分爱他,怕他死去,所以在神佛面前许下愿心,用圈子将他套住了。
[Runtu] was standing in the kitchen, with his round, crimson face and a little felt cap on his head and a gleaming silver necklet on his neck, which showed that his father loved him very much and was scared he would die, and so he made a wish before the gods and buddhas and used the necklet to seal that wish.
